SYMONDS, Ellen Faye – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Aunt, Ellen Faye Symonds, 91. Ellen passed away January 19, 2024 at Bayside Home with her loving family by her side. She was born June 22, 1932 to Alex and Olive (Nickerson) Goreham of Woods Harbour. She was a devoted Christian and a member of Woods Harbour Calvary Baptist Church. In her younger years she lived at the Minto Hotel in Woods Harbour where she helped with the cleaning and chores at the hotel and also waitressed at the Thunderbird Cafe which was a part of the hotel and was owned by her uncle “Puggy”. Ellen met the love of her life, Frankie and they were married on September 18, 1950. Together they were blessed with three daughters, two sons, 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. After marriage she became a homemaker and built a beautiful life full of love. She hosted bible study and club nights at her house. She toured the Rocky Mountains with Frankie and friends. She enjoyed knitting and baking, making the best brown bread around. Her home was the place of many family gatherings, especially Christmas. She enjoyed bowling and going for walks in the snow. Ellen was a loving and caring person, always trying to comfort and care for anyone who needed it. In her later years, Ellen called Bayside her “Home”. Always stating how much she loved it there and would never go back home. She always joined in the activities with a joyful heart, especially bingo. Always calling us to tell us of her winnings and making sure that she divided them up for all the great grandchildren. Ellen had a beautiful soul and will be remembered for her kindness and devotion to her family and friends. She will be missed deeply by children, Robin Ross (Rodney), Trudy Nickerson (Carl), Ray Symonds (Sheila) and by her nephew who was a bonus “son”, Ralph Goreham (Donna). Grandchildren, Wayne Ross, Ryan Ross (Meredith), Melanie Belliveau (Corey), Shawnnasi Nickerson (Mark), Logan Symonds, Shannon Symonds (Jacob), Chad Symonds (Mary), Mason Symonds (Jannah), Skyler Symonds (Karen), Bronson Symonds and Hudson Symonds. Great grandchildren, Nolan, Colin, Jordan, Dallas, Coletyn, Brock, Mattie, Ellie, Lennox, Kaymen, Sullivan, Greysen and Elliot. Sister Barbara Hopkins (Clive) , daugher in law, Andrea Symonds. Many nieces, nephews and dear friends. As well as her parents, she was predeceased by husband, Franklyn Symonds, son Gordon Symonds and daughter Jeannie Lucille in infancy. Sisters Pauline Buchanan and Lenny Harding. Brothers, Howard, Burt, Percy, Allison and Joseph. Family would like to thank the staff at Bayside Home for all the love and care that they gave Ellen. And a special thank you to Dr. Yee for his continued care, It did not go unnoticed and is appreciated very much. There will be a visitation at H.M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, Barrington, from 7-9 pm on Monday. A funeral service will be held 2pm Tuesday January 23, 2024 at Calvary Baptist Church in Woods Harbour. Interment to take place at Greenwood Cemetery, Woods Harbour. It has been requested there be family flowers only. Donations in Ellen’s memory may be made to the Rosalin Nickerson Care Fund.
