Ellen Agnes Sweeney,
age 97, went to her rest on September 28, 2024 in Wolfville, Nova
Scotia.
The daughter of Berton
and Irene Nickerson (deceased) of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Ellen is
predeceased by her siblings, Frank, John, Mary, and Patricia and
survived by her brother, Berton (wife Irene) of Wolfville, Nova
Scotia.
Married to her husband
Douglas in 1950 at St. Ambrose Church, Yarmouth N.S., they enjoyed 29
years together before Doug passed away in 1979. Together they raised a
joyful family where music, laughter and family outings were
commonplace. Family time at the Sunday dinner table was one of the
highlights of every week.
Ellen was a loving
mother of five children: Michael (wife Claudette) Sweeney of Winnipeg,
Manitoba; Bryan (wife Gwendolyn) Sweeney of Howie Centre, Nova Scotia;
Jan (husband Peter) Gnemmi of Hants Border, Nova Scotia; Patricia
(husband Marcel Bourque) Sweeney of Montreal, Quebec; and Daniel (wife
Shauna) Sweeney of Greenwich, Nova Scotia.
After her
husband’s passing, Ellen moved from Iberville, Quebec, where
they had bought their first house, back to her roots in Nova Scotia.
Here she purchased a house and continued to raise her youngest son and
make a new life for herself and Dan.
Ellen took great
pleasure in her thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great
grandchildren, and would speak proudly of them at every
opportunity.
Cremation has taken
place and there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private
family interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Churchyard
Cemetery, Kentville, NS. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White
Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
