Pettipas, Elizabeth Marie – 88 of The Maples,
Antigonish, and formerly of Linwood passed away Wednesday, October 4th
at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital in
Antigonish.
Born in Linwood, she was a daughter of the late Courtney and
Agnes (Benoit) Kinney. She was a member of St. Peter’s
Parish, Tracadie.
Mom graduated from the Halifax Infirmary School of Nursing in
1957 and nursed in Halifax and at St Martha’s until retiring
in the early 1990’s.
Volunteerism and giving back to your community were very
important to her. Some of her accomplishments included being a CWL
member for over 50 years, serving several terms as president, being a
founding member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Tracadie Volunteer Fire
Department, and being a member of the Happy Tracadonians Seniors Club.
For her volunteer efforts, Mom received the Remarkable Senior Award
from the Province of Nova Scotia.
Mom was also a founding member and longtime president of the
Tracadie and Area Veterans Association, and she worked
tirelessly to help install stained glass windows in the church, erect
a memorial plaque in the veteran’s park and a wall of honour
at East Antigonish Education Centre/Academy, and compile a book about
the veterans in the Tracadie area.
Mom also had a deep faith and was a
3rd order Carmalite and had a special devotion
to St Anthony. Besides her 4 grandchildren and 4 great granddaughters,
she had 11 godchildren who were very special to her.
She is survived by her son, Mark (Elaine), Craigmore;
grandchildren, Lacey (Chad) Benoit, Cape Jack; Zachary (Kristen), St.
Andrews; great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Alex Benoit, Cape Jack;
Amelia and Ada Pettipas, St. Andrews; former daughter-in-law, Michelle
Mahoney; step-grandchildren, Jonathan Warner, Sydney; Brandon Warner
(Taylor Cormier), Amherst; brother Jack (Jane) Kinney, Petawawa
Ontario,
Predeceased by husband of 62 years Tom, son, Bruce; and
brother, Billy, in infancy.
We wish to extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. David Cudmore
and Dr. Emily Rice, the staff at The Maples, and St.
Martha’s Palliative Care team for their compassion and
attentive care.
Cremation has taken place with visitation in C.L. Curry
Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish, on Friday October
6th from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday in St.
Peter’s Church, Tracadie, at 10:00am with Reverend John
Barry presiding. Burial in the parish cemetery.
Memorial Donations may be made to the Antigonish Town and
County Palliative Care Society or the Tracadie and Area Veterans
Association.
