Dr. Elizabeth “Liz” M Racz Boyce of Drumheller, Alberta passed peacefully at the Drumheller hospital on the Victoria Wing in Continuing Care, on November 27, 2023. She was 69 years old.
Liz is survived by her devoted husband, Bob, her daughter, Beth (Mike), sons Josh and Jody, and sister Helen. She was predeceased by her father Eugene and mother Elizabeth as well as brothers, George and Les, and sister, Kathy.
Liz was a devout Catholic born in Canmore, Alberta. She was primarily raised in Calgary, Albera where she attended high school at St. Francis and received her MD from the University of Calgary in 1980.
After graduating from medical school, Liz moved to Drumheller to start her medical practice. It is here where she met her skydiving husband Bob, in 1982, at a chili cook off and they were married in 1983.
Liz had a prominent, long, and decorated medical career in Drumheller from 1980 to 2016 when she had to reluctantly step back from her practice due to illness. Liz received her Medical Council of Canada in 1986 and Fellowship in Family Medicine in 2004. Liz was the both the first female physician and the first physician from southern Alberta to receive the Rural Physicians Award of Distinction in 2005, based on her well-rounded contributions to rural medicine.
Despite a full and busy career Liz always made time for her family. She rarely missed her kid’s baseball, basketball, or volleyball games and enjoyed time for family vacations. She was an incredible mother, role model and a generous, empathetic, and kind person who would truly do anything for those in need.
Prayer Vigil will be held Friday, December 1, 2023 at 7:00 P.M. at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church, Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic. The family invites everyone to join them for lunch at the St. Anthony’s Parish Hall immediately following the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Drumheller Area Health Foundation (Continuing Care) or the Drumheller and District Humane Society.
Special thanks to the staff on the Victoria Wing in Continuing Care for the excellent care she was given right to the end.
