Obituary
Passed so very peacefully away at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, St. John’s, on Saturday, June 22, 2024, Elizabeth “Joyce” Reid, of Dildo.
Predeceased by her parents Gordon and Ruth Reid; brothers Ray, Harry and Roy; sisters Bessie Savory, Elaine Mercer and Annie Vardy; brothers and sisters-in-law Geneva Reid, Wilfred Savory, Douglas Mercer, John Vardy and Marilyn Reid; nephews Stephen Reid and Christopher Deacon; and special cousin, Rosalind Gosse.
Leaving to mourn with cherished memories are her brothers Graham (Linda Coombs) and Barry (Carmel); sisters Kathy (Dinzel) Baggs and Barbara (Ron) Burry; sisters-in-law Juanita Reid and Carol Reid; 32 nieces and nephews and their families, some of whom thought of her as their second mother and all of whom loved her dearly; special cousin Marjorie Gosse and friend Elaine (Spencer) Reid; her friends and former co-workers at the Janeway Children’s Hospital; as well as many others cousins and friends.
Although Joyce had no children of her own, she had an impact on so many, both with her sibling’s children and through her work at the Janeway. Her caring and patience with them was abundant.
Her care and compassion knew no bounds as she helped to ease the burden of those around her and when her illness took away her ability to help, she felt she’d lost her purpose in life, but her memory will live on through the kindness she has shown and lives she has touched so gently.
Thank you to all the health care professionals who have cared for her especially in these past 2 years. The care and concern of the staff of 7 East St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital and the staff of Ruby Manor in St. John’s who were her extended family, with special mention to Annetta and Monike.

A visitation will be held from Warren’s Funeral Home, Dildo, on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 pm.
A funeral service will be held from the Salvation Army TBS Corps, Dildo, on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at 2:00 pm. Cremation to follow.
Interment to be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Joyce’s memory may be made to her precious great-nephew, Nolan whom she absolutely adored. Nolan was born with End Stage Renal Failure and lives with Chronic Kidney Disease. Donations may be sent to nolansmedicalfund@gmail.com
