ELIZABETH IEPKJE ROOK
With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to Elizabeth Iepkje Rook, fondly known as Liz, who peacefully passed away in her home, surrounded by the warmth of her loved ones, notably her devoted husband of 56 years, Harm Rook. Born in Haulerwijk, Netherlands, to Ruud and Boukje Bergsma, Elizabeth’s journey led her family to Canada in July 1951. Her absence leaves a profound void, as she is predeceased by her beloved sister Judy and her dear brothers Keith and Ralph. However, her enduring spirit lives on in her surviving siblings: Isabel, Wilma, Rudolf, Nicholas, and William. In 1967, Elizabeth embarked on a lifelong journey of love and companionship with Harm Rook. Together, they nurtured three beautiful children who married wonder spouses Harvey to Kelly, Allan to Krislynn and David to Sayli. Elizabeth’s essence was woven into the fabric of simple joys – working alongside Harm on the farm, tending to her garden with loving care, and fostering deep connections within her community. She found solace and purpose in her unwavering faith, actively engaging in the life of Zion Christian Reformed Church. Her involvement with youth ministries, leading coffee break Bible studies, and lending her voice to the choir touched the lives of those around her. As we gather to honor her memory, let us celebrate the richness of her life at the visitation to be held at Fraser-Morris & Heubner Funeral Home in Cobden, Ontario, on Monday February 12, 2024 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 pm. and Tuesday in Zion Christian Reformed Church, Pembroke from 10 am until service time at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family humbly requests donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, a tribute to Elizabeth’s compassionate spirit. Though she may have departed from this lovely Ottawa Valley, may Elizabeth’s soul find eternal peace with our Lord and Saviour, and may her enduring love continue to guide and inspire us all.
