Obituary
Passed peacefully away in the loving presence of her family, at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, on Sunday, August 13, 2023, Elizabeth «Betty» Butler (née Cahill) of Path End, St. Mary’s Bay, aged 77 years.
Pre-deceased by her parents Frank & Eliza Cahill (nee Bishop); brothers: John, Michael (Madeline), Frank, Adrian and Patrick; sisters: Josephine (Sylvester) Fagan and Uriel (Larry) Fagan; her parents-in-law Patrick & Eileen Butler, her sister-in-law Mary Butler, her niece Patricia Grace and her nephews: Ricky and Hilary Gibbons, and Frank, Bren, Randy and Sylvester Fagan.
Leaving to mourn her devoted husband of 56 years Lawrenc, sons Donny (Marlene) and Larry; daughters: Linda (Randy), Carol Ann (Craig), Lisa (Ivan), Brenda (Scott) and Melissa (Brad); her precious grandchildren: Chantal (Mitch), Ricky, Jai-Lynn, Brianna, Rachael, Allie, Andrew, Eve and Zoe and her great-grandchildren James and Jackson.
Betty is also survived by her sister and best friend Margaret (Hilary) Gibbons; sisters-in-law Catherine, Anita, Anne and Geraldine; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law of the Butler family: Jim (Daphne), Pat (Gen), Don, John (Karen), Noreen (Albert), Joan (Hughie), Sister Sandy and Mary (Roy); special friends Betty (Len d.) Butler, Calvin and Kathy Rideout and her Agnes Pratt buddies: Ruby, Marina, Berk and Aunt Gen Meehan.
The family would like to thank the emergency staff and doctors at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, especially Nurse Ada. Your compassion and professionalism for Mom and the family during such a difficult time is much appreciated and will not be forgotten.
There are no words to express our profound appreciation for and gratitude toward the Agnes Pratt Home, especially to the staff of Stella Burry Place, where Mom had resided for the last six and a half years. Your excellent level of care, professionalism and your love for mom will always be remembered. You became like a second family to us and Mom loved you all dearly. A Special thank you is also extended to Dr. Singleton and the Recreation, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy, Housekeeping, Dietary, Beauty and Administrative departments. Words cannot thank all of you enough for the exceptional care and attention you provided Mom during her stay.
Resting at Gibbons’ Funeral Home, St. Mary’s, on Tuesday, August 15, from 6 – 8pm and Wednesday, August 16, 1 – 4pm; 6 – 8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 17, at 11am, at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, St. Mary’s. Burial to follow. Flowers greatly accepted or donations in Betty’s memory may be made to the Agnes Pratt Recreation Committee, in care of the family, as Mom truly enjoyed her games of bingo and cards, and the outings and daily activities which the staff always ensured she was included in.
