Just shy of her seventy-first birthday, Elizabeth Anne Atherton (nee Blake) passed away unexpectedly in the comfort of her own bed on June 17th 2023.
Born on July 11th 1952 and predeceased by her loving parents, Allan & Mary Blake, Elizabeth was the eldest sibling to Lynne Blake, Paula Blake Dryla (Jeff), and her brother Peter Blake. She loved being «Uncle Lizzie» to her neice Kaleigh Dryla Broadwell (Doug) and nephew Blake Alexander Dryla, and recently became Great Uncle Lizzie to Autumn Dryla Broadwell. Elizabeth has left a Mom sized hole in the hearts of her two daughters, a.k.a «her pearls», Meaghan (Mike) and Robyn (Dennis).
Born in East York, Elizabeth grew up in Scarborough, and graduated from Woburn Collegiate. Following in her father’s footsteps, she «bled Scotia Bank red», working for the respected financial institution before retiring with over 40 years of service. Elizabeth greatly treasured the countless relationships she forged with her co-workers over the years, with an almost mystical ability to recall exactly in what branch, department, and/or year she first met any Scotiabanker she bonded with. Being involved in the great Y2K conversion, managing «the boys club» 2nd level support team, and helping bring chip card technology to South America were some of her proudest work accomplishments.
Liz was known for her funky tights and high heels, her laughter, and the sparkle in her eye. She loved life, her friends, and loved her family immensely. Despite some tumultuous health incidents in the last 5 years, she maintained close personal relationship with life long friends and will be missed by Donna Warrender, Carol Trim Coombs, June Johnson, and her best friend of over 65 years, Ann Harrison.
A celebration of life is in the works (Liz loved a good party!) and will be scheduled for the fall.
