Passed away peacefully Monday August 12, 2024, at age 96. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur (2000), son Anthony (1990), and granddaughter Angie Curry (2020). She is survived by her sons Bradford and Michael of Florida; her grandchildren, Alisha Brooks of Georgia, Steven Brooks of Florida, Christine Budd of Alabama, and Shawna Wallace; greatgrandchildren, Freya and Emet Budd, Aiden and Gannon Hale, Kayden and Mykah Wallace and DeWayne Brooks. She will be greatly missed by her nieces, Dianne and Pat and nephew, Ray in British Columbia, her large extended family in Southern Ontario and all her friends at Stamford Court Apartments.
Eleanor “Norie” lived a long and extraordinary life. She was born in Vancouver, British Columbia on November 5, 1927, to Pietro Canal and Virginia Merlo, the youngest sister of Hughie, Mary, and Bill.
Norie and her husband Art met in Vancouver. Together, they lived a life of adventure, travelling throughout the United States before finally settling in Florida. It was there that they raised their 3 sons and ran their family business. Art and Norie retired to Niagara Falls where Art was raised.
Norie was an amazing cook and baker. Her rum cake and antipasto were family favourites! Sadly, we cannot find the recipe for either. She was a loving, kind, and generous person, and she will be missed by all who knew her.
Thank you to all the staff and residents of the Rainbow Unit at GNGH for taking care of Norie over the past few months, especially to those who ensured she always had enough sugar in her coffee.
A graveside service will be held at Lundy’s Lane Cemetery, on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at 2 p.m. (please gather at the Lundy’s Lane gates). As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to either March of Dimes or to the NHS- Niagara Falls Site Rainbow Unit. Memories, photos and condolences can be shared at www.morseandson.com
