SEQ CHAPTER h r 1It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my wife, Elaine Sophie O’Donoghue. She died on March 7, 2023, peacefully and in no pain at Headwaters Hospital Orangeville.
Born July 29, 1941, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
She was predeceased by our son Sean O’Donoghue, mother Irene Demchuk (nee Drobot), father Metro Drobot, half brother John Drobot, brothers George Drobot and Steve Drobot, sister Ollie Lewchuk, and niece Diane Drobot. She is survived by her husband John O’Donoghue, daughter-in-law Marci O’Donoghue, grandchildren Parker & Dayton O’Donoghue, nephew Martin Drobot (great-niece Larissa Drobot Browne), Dwayne Drobot, Mark Kochems (great- niece Samarah Kochems, great-nephews Quinn, Regan and Shelby Kochems), niece Michelle Marchinko (great-niece Tegan Marchinko, great-nephews Lonnie, Scott and Brendan Marchinko), niece Mona Ruff (great-nephews Justin and Connor Ruff), brother-in-law Peter O’Donoghue, sister in law Marianne O’Donoghue (niece Aislyn Boutin, great-nephew Aaron Boutin, great-nieces Arika and Lexi Boutin), sister-in-law Mardi Kennedy, bother-in-law Jack Kennedy (niece Laura Kennedy, great-nephews Michael and Connor Kennedy O’Keefe), nephew John Kennedy, sister-in-law Roberta Kangas, nephew Matti Kangas, (great nephews Jack and Charlie Kangas, great-nieces Lacey and Ava Kangas), niece Brooke Wiseman (great-nephew Joseph Wiseman, great-nieces Georgia and Lindsay Wiseman), niece Lindsay Bowen (great nieces Bella and Aislyn Bowen, great-nephews Ben and Sam Bowen), nephew Ben Kangas (great nieces Zoey and Sadie Kangas, great nephew Bo Kangas), and sister-in-law Patricia O’Donoghue.
Elaine obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Saskatchewan in 1962. She came to Kapuskasing, Ontario where she worked for the Victorian Order of Nurses. She transferred to Oakville, where she was working when she and I met. We were married in 1966 and lived in Toronto for 28 years. Our son Sean was born in 1968. He was a super son, always curious, afraid of nothing, full of fun, smart, a bit of a rascal at times, and we loved him dearly. His death in 2016 was tragic, but he left 2 beautiful grandchildren – Parker and Dayton.
Elaine worked for Home Care Program Toronto for many years and retired for the first time in 1994 I think it was. We moved to Caledon and she joined Home Care Program Etobicoke which became Community Care Access Centre Etobicoke Office. We relocated to Amaranth (between Orangeville and Shelburne) and she worked with CCAC Orangeville Office until she retired for good in 2019, at age 78.
Elaine always encouraged and supported me in my career and all of my endeavours, risky, crazy and otherwise.
Elaine loved flowers – especially orchids and lilies and cared for hundreds of them. She also loved to travel – we visited all 6 continents and approximately 95 countries. She also loved live theatre and opera.
Elaine was a great cook and loved to entertain. She was full of fun and good humor, gracious and modest. She would do anything for her grandchildren Parker and Dayton whom she loved unreservedly and beyond measure.
I will miss Elaine, my love and soul mate, very very much. John
If anyone wishes to make donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or to Headwaters Health Care Foundation, in Elaine’s name, that would be much appreciated.
Funeral Service will be held at the Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre, 21 First St., Orangeville on Sunday March 12, 2023 at 1:00 pm. Followed by reception. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 am.
