Edward Stringer
March 5, 1933 — December 7, 2024
Edward Stringer died peacefully in his sleep at the age of 91, on December 7, 2024, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Ed was born on March 5, 1933, at St. Pauls Hospital in Saskatoon. He grew up and attended school in Medstead, a small farming community in the west central region of Saskatchewan.
After completing his schooling, Ed joined the Canadian Army and participated in peacekeeping and training missions in Alberta, Quebec, and Germany. When his tour of duty was completed, Ed returned to Saskatchewan and settled in Prince Albert. He began a long career with Corrections Canada working at the Prince Albert Penitentiary. He worked in general patrol, guard duty, and his favorite assignment-the K9 Unit. Ed finished his working life in a labour role with the Government of Saskatchewan, retiring in the early 1990’s.
Ed married Velma on June 7, 1963. They eventually purchased a home in Prince Albert where they resided until earlier this year, enjoying over 61 years of loving marriage together.
He was an accomplished photographer, and his work was published in many local, provincial, and national magazines and newspapers. He was also a licensed pilot, flying hundreds of hours through the beautiful prairie sky. Ed enjoyed nature and the outdoors, and him and Velma would often go for Sunday drives to explore and appreciate the northern Saskatchewan landscape. They enjoyed travelling, and vacationed in many places throughout Canada, the USA, and Europe.
A long time member and deacon of his church, Ed enjoyed sharing stories, telling jokes, and spending time with the brethren. He will be dearly missed by his church family.
Ed was always willing to lend a helping hand, and would go out of his way to make people feel special and welcomed.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the nurses, doctors, and staff at RUH and City Hospital in Saskatoon, and Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert. A special thanks as well to all the staff at Preston Park Retirement Residence in Saskatoon, who went above and beyond to show care and compassion to Edward, and helped keep him comfortable and happy over the past year.
As per Ed’s wishes, there will not be a formal funeral arrangement. Those wishing to send cards of condolence to Velma may do so by mail to the following address: Box 22005 RPO Wildwood, Saskatoon, SK. S7H 5P1.
