Death Notice of Edward «Ed» Burton Feick
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Edward Feick share news of his passing on November 11th, 2023.
Ed died peacefully in his sleep, at his beloved cabin, at the end of his favourite week of deer hunting. He was predeceased by his father, Dr. Thomas Burton Feick; his mother, Mildred Boyd; Alisa Feick (nee Sazonik); and his brother-in-law, Gerry Holle.
Ed is survived by his loving spouse of many years, Linda Grant; his cherished daughters Marion “Sissy” Mylrea of Australia; Kimberlee Feick Lowry (Dwain) of Kincardine; and Tanya Feick (Leon) of Kitchener. He will be deeply missed by his dear sister Beverley Holle of New Glasgow and all the members of his Nova Scotia family. Ed’s much loved grandchildren, Eddie, Jade and Dylan will miss him dearly. He is fondly remembered by Linda’s children Trevor Grant (Stephanie) of Toronto and Alison Grant Phillips (Andrew) of Ottawa.
Ed was born and grew up in New Hamburg, Ontario, where he spent many happy hours fishing and hunting with his father and friends. As a teenager, Ed was an avid baseball and hockey player. He also enjoyed drumming in the New Hamburg band. Ed was proud of his career as a Trustee in Bankruptcy with Diegel & Feick and later as a partner in KPMG.
Edward had fond memories of the many summers spent up in Armstrong, Ontario, at his mentor Howie Meeker’s fishing camp; Ed was a guide and top-notch fish cleaner. This connection prompted his lifelong disdain for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Ed’s happy place was at “The Cabin” on the Southline, where he welcomed retirement to pursue his passions for hunting, cross-country skiing, fishing, tennis and, later, golf. He was instrumental in starting the Flesherton Old Timers Hockey League where he coached, managed and played until his 81st year. Eventually, he even wore a helmet.
Ed always looked forward to his fishing trips all over Canada, but Manitoulin Island held a special place in his heart. Timberlane Lodge will not be the same without him; the family is so grateful to Mark and his team for taking such good care of him there for many years.
Special thanks to Bob, Leonard, Terry, Don and Bud, who were instrumental in making Dad’s last days so special. We also thank Ed’s lifelong friend Bill for his support.
Visitation will be held at the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham on Friday, November 17th from 3 – 7 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Ed’s life will be held at the Durham Legion on Saturday, November 18th at 11 a.m. Interment at McNeil Cemetery, Priceville.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to the Durham Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice.
