It is with great sadness we announce the
passing of Edith Theresa (Cove) Wood, age
95, of Linden. Edith passed away on Tuesday, August 13th at the
Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre with family be her
side.
Born on March 30, 1929 in Amherst Head,
she was a daughter of the late George and Marion (Chapman)
Cove.
Edith (Edie) as she was known, was born
at the beginning of the great depression in a farming community. She
has been a gardener most of her life from a little girl. She joined 4H
when she was 15 years old.
Even as a child, she was interested in
cake decorating, they used to make mud cakes and decorate them in a
playhouse that her father made them. She learned to knit at age 10 and
also enjoyed quilting and sewing. She made lots of clothes for her
family.
Church has always been a part of her
life. She was in the choir, UCW, a Sunday School teacher and always
attended community church functions. Later in life, while unable to
attend church, she listened to it on the radio.
She was very proud to be a 4H leader for
50 years. She started off teaching garden and crafts, then settled
into cake decorating where she taught many children whom became a part
of her family. She enjoyed watching the children develop into young
adults and learning how to make life decisions.
Edie was a hard worker, at times
throughout life, she looked after children, worked out of the home at
market gardening, clothing factory and later in life helped out
elderly people in the community. She took up grading for accounting
and through the farm forum, learned how to make material by using a
loom and sold the products. She was a quilter, knitter and clothing
maker. She made wedding cakes for people and sold home baking for
years. She also kept a lot of people in home knit socks, all while
being an avid gardener.
Edie was know as the pillar of her
community and to all, you could always ask her for advice. Her quote
was «There are so many people who are worse off than me, I count
my blessings every day.» Family and friends were the center of
her universe. She lived by «Treat others as you would want to be
treated yourself.»
Throughout all of life’s challenges,
Edie was always able to figure out how to be resourceful and make ends
meet (even though this was not easy, she always made it
work).
Edith is survived by her sons Wallace
(Kathy) and Brian (Sandy); daughter Anne (Trevor); grandchildren
Jessica, Trinda (Matt), Devin, Cailee (Ashley), Andrew (Ashton),
Rebecca (Matthew), Michaela and Sarah (Johnathan); great-grandchildren
Camden, Eli, Kye, Maia, Kayce, Sadie, Delilah and Peyton; sister

Besides her parents she was predeceased
by an infant son George; husband Merton; siblings Earl, Barbara,
Edward, Eunice and Myra.
