Obituary
With broken hearts, the family of the late Edith Lillian Martha Halfyard (Anstey) would like to announce her passing at the age of 80 at the Corner Brook Long Term Care Facility, on Thursday, June 6th, 2024.
Edith was well known in the Town of Deer Lake, from Church gatherings, bingo games, and one of the best cooks at the Deer Lake Motel. She was strong in her Faith to the Lord and devoted to the United & Salvation Army Churches. She loved hosting Church sing-a-longs in her home. She loved Sunday drives with her Husband and sisters all over Newfoundland.
Edith was the heart and soul and glue that held the Halfyard family together. Her family meant everything to her and having them together, happy, and fed was her main goal. The more people that could gather together the happier Edith and Cecil were. Leaving to mourn with found and loving memories, her children Glenda (Jack) of Deer Lake, Frank (Dolores) of Fredericton, NB, Rick (Debbie) of Deer Lake, Cathy (Barry) of Labrador City, Tina (Bill) of Fort McMurray, AB, Shelley of Fort McMurray. Her 10 grandchildren, Tracy (Kirk), Terry (Terri-Lynn), Sheldon (Naomi), Monica (Karol), Megan (Greg), Ricky (Heather), Michael (Jordan), Mark (Krista), Tiffany (Todd), Kendra and 17 great grandchildren. Her 4 brothers Freeman (Nita), Edward (Doreen), Willy (Onslo), Cliff (Joyce) and her brothers-in-law, Wilfred (Linda), Howard (Dorothy), Burt, and sister-in-law Denise. Also, many nieces and nephews and special family friends Darren & Dawn Pelley & Family.
Edith was pre-deceased by her loving Husband of 59 years, Cecil, her parents Walter & Rachel Anstey, her in-laws Stanley and Maude Halfyard, sisters & brothers-in-law, Jean & Edward Simmons, and Ruby & Gerald Owens, sisters-in-law Cora Rowsell, Jessie Baker, Brenda Anstey, & Marie Young & brother-in-law Noel Halfyard.
A special thank you to the Nurses & Staff at Raspberry Road of the Long-Term Care Facility for the amazing care you gave our mother. For those who would like to make donations, they can be made in memory of Edith to the Kidney Foundation of Canada and flowers are graciously accepted.
The family will be receiving family and friends at Parsons Funeral Home 63 North Main Street, Deer Lake, NL, on Sunday, June 9th, 2024, from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 pm.
The Funeral service will take place on Monday, June 10th, 2024, at 3:00 pm, at St. Paul’s United Church in Deer Lake, NL, with Rev. Dr. Simon officiating and keeping with Edith’s wishes cremation will take place with the interment date to follow.
