In Loving Memory of Edith Jean McArthur
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jean McArthur, who left us on August 29th 2024 at the age of 84. She was a beacon of love, kindness, and gentle strength, and her absence leaves a profound void in the lives of all who knew her.
A devoted mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, Jean cherished her family above all else. She was a source of love and warmth that we turned to in times of joy and sorrow. Her thoughtful nature and giving heart were felt by all who were fortunate enough to know her, and her legacy of love will continue to inspire us.
Born on February 23rd 1940, Jean was the embodiment of grace and compassion. Her life was a testament to the power of a kind word, a warm embrace, and a generous spirit. She had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel special and cared for, always putting the needs of others before her own. Whether it was a thoughtful gesture, a homemade Christmas cookie, or a listening ear, she had a gift for making the world around her a better place.
Throughout her life, Jean was known for her quiet strength and endless patience. She faced life’s challenges with grace and resilience, always finding ways to uplift those around her, no matter her own circumstances. She had a gift for making everyone feel important, taking the time to listen, and to provide a shoulder to lean on. Her door was always open, her home a haven where love and understanding flourished.
Jean was the real life Mary Poppins, she had a special connection with all creatures, great and small. She had so much love for animals, finding joy and comfort in their company throughout her life. Her gentle touch and soothing voice could calm even the most anxious of souls, whether they walked on two legs or four. Her home was always open to furry friends, and her gentle care was a comfort to many including her two dogs Sasha and Lily.
Jean was also a force to be reckoned with at the card table, particularly when it came to euchre. She was a true card shark, with a sharp mind and a knack for strategy that left her opponents in awe. Whether she was playing with family or friends, she brought a competitive spirit and infectious joy to every game. Her euchre nights were legendary, filled with laughter and friendly banter. It was in these moments that her playful side shone brightest, reminding us all that life is meant to be enjoyed, one card at a time.
In addition to her love for euchre, Jean was an avid knitter, finding peace and joy in the rhythmic motion of her needles. Her knitting was a labor of love, and she took great pride in creating beautiful, handmade items for her family and friends. From cozy shawls, headbands, and hats that warmed her loved ones on cold winter nights to delicate baby blankets and clothes that welcomed new generations into the world, her creations were tangible expressions of her love and care. Each stitch was infused with her gentle spirit, and her knitted gifts were treasured by all who received them.
Though she is no longer with us in body, Jean will forever live on in our hearts and memories. We take solace in knowing that she is now at peace, surrounded by her family and animals she so dearly loved.
As per Jean’s wishes, a private service will be held for her immediate family to celebrate her life and the incredible impact she had on those around her. In memory of our very own Mary Poppins, she would have loved that donations be made in her name to Home Again. Home Again is an all volunteer, foster based, federally registered animal rescue charity that rehomes surrendered, abandoned and homeless cats and dogs in Bancroft, Ontario and beyond.
