BLAIKIE, DR. W.D.S. – It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of William Blaikie on June 5, 2024 at NH Niagara Falls Site. Predeceased by his wife Irene (née Gibson) in 2024, and son Gordon in 1960. He is survived by his children Simon (Krista) Blaikie, Lesley (Norm) Collins, Elizabeth (Michael) Fortushniok and Nigel (Susan) Blaikie. Bill also leaves behind his loving grandchildren Connor, Brynne, Drew (Samara), Tyler (Emily), Evan, Ben, Stephanie and Jacqueline. Cherished great Grandfather of Chase.
Bill was born in 1933 in Oban, Scotland, and moved to Glasgow to attend medical school, where he met the love of his life, Irene, whom he married in 1959. After completing 3 years of National Service in the Royal Navy, he immigrated with his young family to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia in 1965. Finally, he landed in Thorold, where he set up his family practice at Thorold Medical Clinic. Bill was a dedicated and caring family physician who loved what he did. After retiring in 2001 he continued his many interests, including tennis, gardening, reading and playing his prized cello. Most of all, he took care of our Mom, Irene who had Alzheimer’s, with such love and dedication until her death in January, 2024. The family would like to thank Dr. Tim Tatzel for his care throughout the years and Nicole NP, Dr. Darren Weaver, and Dr. Andre Maddison from the Palliative Care Team. A special thank you to Dr. Richard Scott who helped our dad pass away with the pride and dignity with which he conducted his life. The family would also like to thank all of the people who cared for him in the last week including Niagara EMS, the emergency department and Unit C at Niagara Health Niagara Falls site. We would especially like to thank the Brock Unit at Niagara Falls, where he spent his final days, for their compassion and kindness. Arrangements have been entrusted to BOCCHINFUSO FUNERAL HOME www.Bocchinfusofh.com, but per Bill’s wishes no service will be held.
Rest easy, Dad, you deserve it.
