It is with incredible sadness and the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Dr. Mary-Anne Doyle on May 11th, surrounded by family and close friends. Mary-Anne touched the lives of many. Precious mother to Emma and Alyssa, beloved wife of Dave, loving daughter to Laurence (predeceased) and Jane Doyle, caring sister to Christopher, Siobhan (Peter) and Marie-Claire (Carson). Mary-Anne will be sadly missed by all of the extended Doyle, Nash, Lough and Magill families, both close and ‘across the pond’ in the United Kingdom. Throughout her life, Mary-Anne maintained meaningful friendships that have endured both time and distance. To say that she had a small friend circle would be an understatement.
Mary-Anne never slowed down, living every moment to the fullest even in the face of challenges, and she met each day with bravery, strength, and grace, inspiring those who crossed her path. Mary-Anne never lost focus of the things that brought her the most joy – her family and the adventures she embarked on with them. She loved travelling and exploring, always ready with her camera in hand. Mary-Anne’s energy and enthusiasm for family adventures inspired many wonderful vacations. When she wasn’t travelling, Mary-Anne was planning her next run, ski day or time spent with family and friends.
Mary-Anne made a career out of her love for health and medicine. She was appointed Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine at the University of Ottawa and practised within the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Ottawa Hospital. She completed a BSc in Human Kinetics at the University of Guelph and MSc in Human and Applied Physiology at King’s College London, England. Mary-Anne graduated from McMaster Medical School, and went on to complete her residency training in Internal Medicine, and later Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Ottawa. Following her clinical training, she completed an MSc in Epidemiology and was an Associate Scientist at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. Despite her busy career, Mary-Anne put her family first. We will miss her warm demeanour and fierce determination to always focus on moving forward, no matter the barriers.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Saint Patrick Basilica, 220 Kent Street, Ottawa, ON K1R 5G2 (at Nepean) on Wednesday, June 5th at 10:30 am. Please join us following the Mass at the Horticulture Building at Lansdowne Park, 525 Princess Patricia Way, Ottawa, ON, K1S 3W7) from 1 – 4 pm, to celebrate Mary-Anne’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society .
