On Wednesday, May 8, 2024, Dr. Alice Botai passed away peacefully and was reunited with her husband Andrew (1984) at the age of 90. Alice led a full and dramatic life. She was born in Hungary in 1934 and lived through WW2 and the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. She played a major role with Hungarian Radio. The memorial in Budapest bears her name in memory of her service.
She is survived by her son Micklos Ankermann and grandson Micky and family.
Alice married Andrew Botai in the sixties and moved to Canada in the early 70’s where both She and Andy had to retrain and go back to university. Andy got a job as music director of WDHS and they moved to Wallaceburg in the mid 70’s. Alice taught school in Wallaceburg until the mid 80’s. After the death of Andy in 1984 she moved to Toronto and worked for the Toronto school board where she received her Doctorate degree in Psychology and worked in that field.
Alice will be greatly missed by her many friends, especially her dear friends Karen Russell and Christine Sammy and their families, who will miss her for the enrichment that she added to their lives… Laurie and Mike Trudell and Natalie Feheregyhazi held a special place in her heart.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the Haycock-Cavanagh Funeral Home, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg (519-627-3231). She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Riverview Cemetery during a private family ceremony. If you wish to make a donation in Alice’s memory, please consider your local animal shelter.
