Obituary
Douglas Michael Easton, at the age of 71, passed peacefully away on March 13, 2023 at his home in Grand Falls-Windsor with his wife by his side.
Douglas (Doug as he was known to most), was born to the late Alexander and Bridget Easton on August 7, 1951 in Botwood, NL. He was raised and spent most of his life in Badger, and has always called it his home. At the age of 16, he lost his mother and spent the remainder of his youth in the loving care of his sister June.
As many young men did, Doug left the island and headed to Toronto after finishing high school. He didn’t stay there long as he came back to Badger to go to Vocational School in Grand Falls to pursue Heavy Duty Mechanics; a decision that would serve him well through out his life. It was this decision that ultimately led him on the path to pursue his dream of opening a college (DieTrac Technical Institute) to teach mechanics and eventually expanded to other trades.
It was at the home of his lifelong friend, Mike Patey, that he met the love of his life. They married and raised their three daughters with many moves in Canada for his career. Doug spent much of his early married life working at Newfoundland Tractor in Grand Falls and was regarded very highly in his field of Heavy Duty Mechanics. He always strived to do his best as his family was his greatest passion.
In 2012 Doug retired and settled in Red Cliff, NL. He had been diagnosed with cervical spinal stenosis from which he never fully recovered. He always had his sense of humour and never lost his spirit through out his illness.
Doug is survived by his wife of 50 years Judy, daughters Tammy, Tina (Dale Rendell) and Julie. Seven grand children: Tonya-lyn, Caitlin, Alexandria, Kristen, Devin, Laurel, and Michael; and one great-grand child Laura. Siblings Betty (Warren), Jack (Sandy), June (George), Beulah (Joe), Jesse, Leo (Jan), Ally (Darlene), Eddie (Bern) and Ivan (Loretta), as well as numerous nieces and nephews and a large circle of family and friends.
Visitation will be held at Hoskins Funeral Home in Grand Falls-Windsor on Friday, March 17 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. His celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 18 at the Sacred Heart Church in Badger, NL, with interment to follow at Badger Interfaith Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Devin Rendell, Kristen Fudge, Michael Simon, Todd Lush, Darren Squires and Jeffrey Bridger. Honourary pallbearer will be Dale Rendell.
