It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Douglas “Doug” Chase, who left us on Friday, August 30, 2024 at the age of 84 at St Gabriel’s Villa peacefully in his sleep. His unexpected departure has left an immense void in the lives of all who knew and loved him.
Doug Chase was a man of great integrity, kindness, and unwavering love for his family. Born on May 28, 1940 in Fredericton, New Brunswick, to his parents Orilla and Harold Chase (both predeceased). He was one of three children. He grew up with a deep sense of responsibility and a strong work ethic; and values he carried with him throughout his life. He enjoyed his career at INCO.
He dedicated his life to his family, always putting the needs of others before his own. A devoted husband to his wife, Joan Chase for 64 years and a loving father to Kimberley, Bridget, Greg and Corinna. He was the cornerstone of our family, offering guidance, support, and unconditional love. His wisdom and demeanour made him not only a husband and father but a personable and trusted advisor.
Doug Chase had a passion for sales starting in windows & doors, then moving into cars, furniture & insurance. Doug was top in sales with National Auto League for 33 years. He was an entrepreneur with his own Entertainer DJ Services as well as a member of Elks of Canada. He loved sports, especially broomball, hockey and fastball where he was Teams Manager. Doug was always helping others and lending a hand where needed. He was known for his guiding ability of offering advice and direction to help his children and people to grow and navigate life, sense of humour, compassion to entertain folks, and had a commitment to a task at hand. He touched the lives of many through his community involvement with the Elks organization, several charities, the Parkside Center for Seniors and a longstanding member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Though his time with us was tragically cut short, the memories of his warmth, laughter, and the love he gave so freely will remain in our hearts forever. His legacy will live on through the lessons he imparted and the love he instilled in his children, and his grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he was known as Boompa.
Loving wife of Joan Chase (nee Warner). Beloved father of Kimberley (Richard Charlebois), Bridget Chase, Greg (Lynn Chase predeceased) and Corinna (Marc Marengere). Missed by his sister Helen (Bob Johnson predeceased), his sister Deborah (Donat Carriere) and his stepbrother (Wayne Chase predeceased).
Cherished grandfather “Boompa” of Jessica (Nicholas Hale), Nicholas (Jennifer Charlebois), Charles, Chelsea (Jay), Chance Fraser (Gerson Flores), Megan (Shawn Durocher) Stephanie Chase (Sean Beach), Blake, Jennifer (Gavan), Arielle (Hector), Alex, Nicholas, Jaime (Michael) and Justice (Thomas).
Treasured great grandfather “Boompa” of Katrina, Victoria, River, Loic, Roman, Sloan, Scarlett, Summer, Aidan, Levi, Milo, Shea, Ava, Parker, Nicolas, David, Ollie, Maddie, Emery, Presley and Easton. Doug will also be missed by several cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his immediate family, he will also be missed by extended family members Brian Chase, Kathy Chase and of course, his wide circle of friends.
A celebration of Doug Chase’s life will be held at a later date and location to be determined, where we will gather to honour and remember the wonderful man he was. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to Alzheimer’s Society or Diabetes Canada.
Rest in peace, Doug. Your love and legacy will live on in all of us. Love your beloved family and friends. XO
