Sadly, after a brief illness, Doug passed away at Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital on Friday March 1st, 2024 at the age of 78. Father of Sean Anderson (Theresa Hone), Keenan Anderson (Loretta) and Clayton Anderson, cherished Papa of Cole and Seth, dear brother of Jackie Clemmens (late Greg) and Jon Anderson. Doug was born in Winnipeg, to the late Thomas and Dorothy Anderson, and as part of a military family, he lived in several locations across Canada as a child. As an adult, he did a lot of travelling, but Barrie and Orillia were his home bases. Early in his career Doug was a Conservation Officer in the Municipality of Greenstone, followed by 29 years in the Seafarers International Union of North America, working at the helm of ships travelling the Great Lakes, the Atlantic coast of North America and the Gulf of Mexico. Doug then enjoyed another decade-plus, driving gravel trucks for Stewart Construction in Orillia, from where he finally retired. Retirement gave him the time to spend doing the things he loved such as spending as much time as possible with his grandsons, cross-country skiing, hiking, biking, and canoeing. He will be missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends. The family wishes to give a special thank you to the doctors and nurses in C5 at OSMH and the visiting health care members from Couchiching Family Health Team, Home and Community Care and Bayshore Nursing. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held at this time. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Mariposa House Hospice or Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital Foundation through the Simcoe Funeral Home, 38 James Street E., Orillia (705) 327 0221.
