McNicol, Dougald Archibald
The family announces Doug’s passing on Saturday November 2, 2024, at the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital following a decline related to a recent stroke. Beloved husband of Lynda Marie (nee Rawn) of 56 years. Proud and devoted dad of Kevin (Laura) of Australia and Lisa (Matt) of Barrie and cherished grandpa of Lucian in Australia.
Doug was born on the family farm in the Pretty River Valley to parents Neil and Bessie McNicol. He is survived by his sister Frances (the late Jack) Holmes; predeceased by his brother Robert (Linda) McNicol and sister Mary Catherine (the late Allan) Woodhouse.
He will be remembered by David (Edith) Rawn, Dianne (Pat) Kirby and Shirley (Bob) Noble and many nieces and nephews.
Doug and Lynda farmed together for over 40 years. He was also a dedicated employee at the Collingwood Shipyards for 26 years and Reinhart Foods following the closure of the shipyards. Early in life Doug embraced a strong Christian faith and served his Presbyterian church communities as an elder, member of session and choir member. He was also an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion and Manito Shrine Club.
He will be greatly missed by all and his kind demeanor and gentle way about him will live on forever.
A service of remembrance will be held at First Presbyterian Church at 1p.m. on Saturday November 30, 2024. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church Collingwood or Manito Shrine Club in Doug’s name.
