Surrounded by love, Dorothy McCleak peacefully passed away at Trinity Village Long Term Care Home in Kitchener on Friday, January 5, 2024. She was 85.
She is now rejoicing in the presence of the Lord.
Dorothy was the beloved wife of Chris McCleak, who predeceased her on November 3, 2021. She was the loving mother of Rachel (Mike) Hofstetter of Plattsville and Lorraine Ready of Collingwood. She was also a stepmother to Alison Danvers of Liverpool, UK, and Bridget Heath (Nigel Harris) of Odiham, UK. As ‘Mama,’ she will be deeply missed by her grandchildren Hayden (Taylor), Payton, Finnegan, Liam, Noah, and by great-grandchildren Blakely and Ford. Dorothy is survived by her dear sister E. Jean Jann of Langton, ON, her nephew David, and many dearly loved cousins, nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, Henry & May (Green) Purchas and siblings Hepburn (Bunny), Polly and Bill.
Those who knew Dorothy all echo the same sentiment – she was the kindest, most genuine, welcoming, and loving soul. Her family and friends meant everything to her. Her life philosophy centered on kindness and caring for others, leaving an enduring impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Born in Spring Gardens, St. James Parish, Jamaica, Dorothy often shared cherished memories of Jamaican life, food, and culture, especially during the cold winter months.
A longstanding member of Benton Street Baptist Church, Dorothy cherished her relationships within the community. She found joy in serving in the kitchen and lending a hand wherever needed. Together with Chris, their home was always open to anyone seeking comfort or a supportive presence. Dorothy’s loving legacy cannot be overstated; she has left an indelible mark on all who knew and loved her.
Her family wishes to express deep gratitude to the exceptional care provided by the staff at Trinity Village Long Term Care. The love and support they shared will never be forgotten.
As per Dorothy’s wishes, there will be no funeral, but a joint graveside memorial gathering for Chris and Dorothy is being planned for June 2024. Details to come.
Memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be greatly appreciated. Personal condolences can be posted at www.gffh.ca.»
