It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Dorothy Jean Snarr, 95 years, on November 2 2023 at Rockwood Terrace in Durham, Ontario.
Dorothy was the daughter of William and Edna Trelford (nee Hammond), and was born on December 9th, 1927. As a younger person, she helped on the family farm and was an expert horse handler. Dorothy graduated from Tara High School and enrolled at St. Joseph’s Nursing School where she trained to be a registered nurse. It was during this time of her life that she met her beloved Bill. Dorothy found success in her maternity nursing career which she left behind after the birth of her first child. As her children got older, Dorothy turned her attention to obtaining her short wave radio license and she spent many nights contacting people all over the world with Morse code under her call sign VE3LEM. Dorothy was a recreational bowler and fine-tuned her creativity as a master quilter. As an avid gardener, Dorothy grew a Victory garden during WWII, grew a large vegetable garden to feed her big family, and was famous for her raspberry jam. Friends and family were often lucky to receive fresh vegetables, a jar of jam, or even a beautiful quilt. She was devoted in her faith and enthusiastically enjoyed services held at Rockwood Terrace in her later years as it allowed her to be close to God. Her family was her life and she was a very kind and gentle soul, who was loved by all that knew her.
Devoted mother of Wesley (Selma) Snarr of Fergus, Victor Snarr of Manitoba, Scott (Brigette) Snarr of Mississauga, Gail Snarr of British Columbia, Suzanne (Russell) Pearson of Kars, and Kymberley Snarr (Arthur Shannon) of Proton Station. She leaves behind her herd of precious grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, William (Bill) Harry Snarr, and grandson Matthew Snarr, and siblings Doris Van Sickle, Woody Trelford, and George Trelford.
Family and friends are invited to visitation held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Friday, November 10, 2023 from 10am until time of a Funeral Service at 11:00 am. Interment in Hillcrest Cemetery, Tara.
