Obituary for
Doreen Rombough (Laporte)
It is with our deepest sadness and sorrow, that we announce the passing of my beloved mother, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, an aunt and most loved sister. Mom passed just sixteen days following her 85th birthday. Following a four-and-a-half-year battle with Vascular Dementia, my sweet mother gained her wings and was finally freed from the torment of this terrible illness. Mom had travelled extensively, taught dance in her earlier years, loved to sew beautiful garments, took pottery and studied spiritual practices, becoming a Reiki Master. She was always very spiritual, as a child and spent a year in the Convent, while in her teens. She carried her profound love of God throughout her life. She fed the birds, rabbits, geese, squirrels and chipmunks that visited her yard annually. An avid gardener, Mom could be found, from sun up to sun down, crouched over flower gardens throughout her yard. She had many dogs over the years and loved each one like one of her children. I will fondly recall her looking out her bedroom window in Winnipeg, once the leaves changed, commenting on how spectacular the leaves looked as sunset. She will jubilantly be reunited with her most beloved son, Derrick Dufresne 2015, her most loved niece, Lisa Swancar 2003, her adored mother, Domithille Laporte 2006, her loving father, Albert Laporte 1990 and her true love and husband, Roy Ranta 1962. Left to mourn and remember Mom, with aching in our hearts, Brenda-Lee Ranta and Hugh Dysart (my life partner and co-caregiver to Mom.) He was one of the very few people that could get her out of her room to participate in activities; even giving her a few lessons on playing ‘Shuffleboard.’ He adopted her as his mom, too. Thank you is not enough. She will be greatly missed and cherished by her adoring sister, Dolores Swires (Robert Swires) and her wonderful nephew, Paul Spadafore, wife Mary Lou and sons, Nolan and Justin Spadafore and her beautiful nieces, Vanessa and Hayley Swancar. Also deeply mourning their Gramma, her most loving grand-daughter, Brianna Marie Grimaldi (Tyler Fraser), Leigha Beltrame Markon (Ed Markon) and Adrian Beltrame. Mom had four beautiful great-grandchildren, Wyatt Swain, Xavier Fraser (Timmins, Ontario), Kyden Brandon and Piper Markon (Kelowna BC). Mom also leaves behind many special cousins, with whom she cherished beautiful memories of her youth and later memories with their extended families; her late uncle, Emery Gervais, her late aunt, Gilberte Gervais, the late, Ronald Gervais, Rena Gunn, Judy Carbonneau (George), Ray Gervais, Claude Gervais (Regine) and all their wonderful children. Blessings to you all.
It is with our profound thanks, to the most compassionate staff at Big Water Unit, Extendicare Timmins. Our deepest gratitude to Dr. Ditullio, the caring and supportive nurses, Celia and Vannessa, the PSW’s who did all mom’s daily care with patience and understanding, particularly Tina and Crystal. To all the other beautiful PSW’s who were so kind and went the extra mile for my mother, every one of you is all a gift to your profession.
According to mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Christian Interment and celebration of life will take place in June 2024 in Calgary, Alberta, where the rest of the family is laid to rest; at the Queen’s Park Mausoleum. Donations can be made in her memory to Project Love or the South Porcupine Food Bank. The funeral arrangements are entrusted with the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE 150 Balsam St. S. Timmins
