It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Donna
Marlene Cameron, New Glasgow, on Sunday, August 6, 2023 at the
Aberdeen Hospital, after a brief but very aggressive illness which she
fought with determination and faith but ultimately
lost.
Donna was a very private person and the family would like to
thank everyone who respected her wishes for such during her illness.
You were always in her thoughts.
Donna is survived by her husband, Philip; brothers, Dave,
Westville; Gary (Kathy), Trenton; sister-in-law, Marsha MacLean, New
Glasgow, and several nieces and nephews. Donna was predeceased by her
father, Donald MacLean, mother, Ida (MacIvor) and brother,
Brian.
Donna lived her entire life in Pictou County. She attended
elementary, junior, and high school in Stellarton before moving on to
attend and graduate from PRVS. Donna spent her entire 37 year working
career with Sobeys where she held various positions at the store level
before moving to King Street and then Foord St., from where she
retired in 2012.
Donna was a quiet person who was totally happy and satisfied
not being in the limelight both personally and professionally and this
was her wish throughout her life.
Donna spent her retirement years golfing (trying), gardening,
bowling, camping and travelling. Over the years Donna enjoyed
vacations to Florida, Cuba, Bermuda, Las Vegas, San Diego, Ireland,
Portugal, Spain and a Caribbean Cruise. If there was a travel deal out
there, Donna would find it. Her most memorable trips were to Portugal
and Spain during the last two years.
Many summers were spent camping, sitting at the campfire
nightly and enjoying the peaceful evenings. Later, we spent summers at
her favourite summertime spot at the camp on Caribou Harbour where
family gatherings were held and the nightly entertainment was
stargazing with a bonfire on the beach.
Donna thoroughly enjoyed spending time in her garden and was
very talented creating crafts which were proudly displayed throughout
her home. When the Covid restrictions were implemented, Donna and
Philip started walking daily and continued until her illness. She
found walking was a peaceful way to start her day.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Aberdeen
Hospital, emergency department, 4th floor and the Palliative Care
Unit. Also, thanks to the staff at the Halifax Infirmary 7.3,
Neurosurgery Unit. A special thank you to Alan, Michele, Mary and
niece Erin. Your support and discretion will always be remembered
during this difficult journey.
Visitation 6-8pm Tuesday, August 8, R.H. Porter Funeral Home,
55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow. Funeral mass 10am Wednesday, August 9,
St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow, with Fr. Tom
MacNeil officiating. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations may be
made to the SPCA or Pictou County Food Bank.
Life
circumstances can change quickly without notice, cherish time as it is
