Donald L. Cameron
1937-2024
It is with great regret we announce the passing of Donald L.
Cameron, age 87, of New Glasgow and formerly of Duke Street, Trenton,
on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.
He was born March 6, 1937 in New Glasgow. Don worked at
Morton’s Grocery, Trenton, until 1954 when he moved to
Ontario. In Toronto, he worked at Gair Paper Co. until 1968 when he
moved to British Columbia and worked at various copper mines across
the province. Upon returning to Trenton in 1973, he worked at Hawker
Siddeley until its closing and then various jobs around the county
after that.
Don was an affiliate voting member of Branch 34, Royal
Canadian Legion, New Glasgow. He was also a member of the Heritage
Group, Westville and the 55 Plus Club, New Glasgow. He enjoyed
watching sports on tv, especially Toronto teams. He was an avid hunter
and fisherman.
Growing up he was a member of First United Church, Trenton as
well as the Pentecostal Church, New Glasgow. Don was predeceased by
his father, Lawrence E. Cameron; mother, Agnes F. (MacGillivray)
Cameron; sisters: Gertrude D’Eon, Pearl Bell, Rosie Stiff
and Theresa Blackland.
Don is survived by his first cousin, Hilda Kennedy, Glace
Bay, NS. He will be dearly missed by many cousins, nieces, nephews and
great-nieces and nephews. Most dear to him were niece, Karen (Fred)
Sangster; great-nieces: Jasmine (Joey) Jardine, Annie (Zachari)
MacDonald, Lily Sangster, and their families.
Visitation 2-4pm Friday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55
Almont Ave., New Glasgow, from where funeral will be held at 11am
Saturday. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Donations
may be made to the Pictou County SPCA.
