The family announces with great sorrow the passing of Domenica Fausta (Mimina) at Timmins and District Hospital on Friday, November 3, 2023 at the age of 96 years. Beloved wife of the late Ernesto Dell’Erede (2003), loving mother of Frank (Michelle), Ben (Elizabeth), Dona (John Pessah), Mark (Chantal) and Carla (Paul Huiskamp). She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Chiara, Andrea, Angela, Robert, Gemma, Macy, Nicolas, Alex, Jamie, and great grandchildren Willem, Gabriella, Marissa and Heather. Also mourned by her nieces Marisa, Michelina, Leda and nephew Alfred. Domenica was predeceased by her parents Alfredo and Ersilia Cassiani, her brothers Romeo, Ettore and Dante, and her niece Maria Pia.
Domenica Fausta Dell’Erede, “Mimina” to her friends, was born March 12, 1927 in Bominaco, a village in the Abruzzo region of Italy. At the age of 24 she left her family and travelled, alone by ship, to Canada in order to join her fiancé Ernesto in Timmins, Ontario. They married in 1952 and went on to raise their family in the traditional Italian way, with hard work, making full use of the large family garden, and doing everything necessary to ensure their children had every opportunity to succeed and thrive. Domenica ran a household full of love, never-ending conversation, and abundant, exceptional cooking. Her life was dedicated to the well-being of her family in every sense, and she always welcomed any and all friends of her children for a meal, a drink, or an evening spent in the yard or rec room socializing. Her later years were spent watching her family expand with the addition of spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Until her very last days, she ran the original after work “Coffee Time” with daily coffee, drinks and dolce, and remained a close and dedicated friend to many. She also remained a long-time member of Sacred Heart Parish and Porcupine Dante Club, regularly attending monthly ladies’ dinners and of course her favourite event, the annual Abruzzi Night, always with a crowded table surrounded by her family.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mario Ciccone and the entire staff at TDH who provided such excellent care. Also, we are deeply grateful to mom’s caregiver, Janette Santos, and her extended family who took exceptional care of Nonna in her home. We would also like to thank the reliable and kind homecare services provided by Closing the Gap.
The family will be holding a private service. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Miron
Wilson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, remembrance donations to the Timmins and District
