Obituary of Diane MacLeod
June 23, 1939 – September 5, 2023
With great sadness, we announce Diane MacLeod’s (nee Baker) passing on September 5th at Lakeridge Oshawa after a short illness. She was 84.
Born and raised in Oshawa, she is survived by her three children, Vicki Campbell (Jim McCann), Sandy Campbell, and Jeff Campbell (Shelley); her grandchildren, Atasha, Courtney (Chris Lupel), and Branden Campbell; great-grandchildren Skylar, Colby, Oaklyn, Ryan, and Ava; bonus great-grandchildren Zachary, Aiden and Zander, her brother Ken Baker (Kathleen), step-sister Bea Foster, sister in laws Kay and Linda, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, good friends, and her dog Pebbles.
Diane was predeceased by her mother, Verna Gow, and stepfather, Fred; her father, Allan Baker, and stepmother, Mirella; sister, Janet Spence, and her husband, Wally; brothers, Ron and Harry Baker; and her niece, Debbie Winterbottom (Spence).
Along with her siblings, she had many laughs and good times growing up in Oshawa. Diane loved to dance, was a loyal friend, and was a good mother to her children. She worked hard to ensure they had a roof over their heads and food on the table. She was a strong woman who never gave up, even at the end.
Diane was a Cosmetician who worked for Shoppers and Zellers. She travelled the province for Zellers, setting up cosmetic departments and training staff. When the Palliative Care doctor asked her what her best face care tip was, Diane replied, “Ponds Cold Cream.”
When an opportunity came to work at the Oshawa General Hospital (Lakeridge) in Central Services, Diane took it. Although a change from what she had been doing, she loved her job at the hospital. In the last ten years of her work life before retirement, Diane worked on cash at the Walmart store in Oshawa.
In 2017, Diane moved to a retirement lodge in Orono, which she loved. She met Gail, Orv, Barb, and Heather, who became her good friends, along with many others in the complex. She adopted her dog Pebbles while living here.
Christmas Day was her favourite day of the year, and she instilled her love of Christmas into her children. She also loved sweets and was a big Blue Jay fan.
A simple celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 1st, from 2-4 p.m. at the Town Hall in Orono. The family would love for people to wear something with the Blue Jays on it or something blue to celebrate her life.
Donations in Diane’s honour can be made to the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation or the Humane Society in your area if desired.
