Derek Royle
October 14, 1933 – October 2, 2024
Derek Royle, aged 90, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2024, in Caressant Care, Cobden. Despite battling Alzheimer’s in recent years, Derek remained happy until the very end and always kept his sense of humour and smile.
Derek was born on October 14, 1933, to parents Lucy and Herbert Royle, in Heanor, Derbyshire, England.
After graduating from Loscoe Road School in Derbyshire, Derek began his career at age 15 with an apprenticeship at Rolls Royce in the Aero Engine devision in Derby. In the mid-1950’s Derek completed two years in the RAF stationed in Germany before returning to his position at Rolls Royce.
In 1951, Derek met Pauline Morris at the Hilltop Fair in Nottingham and they married in 1954. Derek and Pauline went on to have four children; Janette, Martin, Sharon and Ian. They were married for 70 years.
Derek immigrated to Canada with his family in 1974, where he worked at Haley Industries in Renfrew and later in the family business, Golden Valley Wear, until his retirement. He frequently travelled back to Europe for work and to visit family. Derek enjoyed a rich personal life and loved spending time with his family, gardening, cars, caravanning, and he cherished his time spent along the English and Welsh coastlines. He was a devoted husband to Pauline, father to four, grandfather to nine, and great-grandfather to 14. He will be greatly missed by all of his family.
Final arrangements entrusted to Zohr Family Funeral Home, Eganville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada. Tributes, condolences and donations may be made online at www.zohrfuneralhome.com
