Obituary of Denis Joseph Michael Tanham
October 21, 1946 – July 8, 2024
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Denis Tanham on July 8, 2024 surrounded by his loving family at the age of 77. Denis is survived by his wife Carol, who he met on July 10, 1964 and married in 1970.
He is much loved by his sons Jason (Jennifer) and Matthew (Leanne) and his grandchildren Olivia and Nolan. He also leaves behind his brother Chris, along with his nephews Paul and Mark, nieces Maureen, Debbie, Pauline, Jeannie and Patricia and those living in the UK. Denis is predeceased by his parents Joseph and Martha Tanham and his sisters May, Patricia and Elizabeth (Betty).
He was born in Holywood, County Down, Northern Ireland on October 21, 1946. He and Carol moved to Toronto, Canada in 1977 with their dog Rebel, before eventually settling down in St. Catharines.
In the early 1980’s, Denis began his career with the Toronto Transit Commision driving both the city bus and subway. In 1988, he started working as a bus driver for GO Transit and also worked as the 1587 Union President for six years.
Denis enjoyed playing golf and darts.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at the Henley House and the nurses at the St. Catharines General Hospital 2A unit for their care.
The family will receive friends (for visitation) at George Darte Funeral Home 585 Carlton Street, St Catharines, Ontario, L2M 4Y1 on Sunday July 14th from 2-4pm. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home Monday July 15th at 11am. At Denis’ request, cremation has taken place.
If so desired, donations to the Alzheimers society would be appreciated by the family.
