Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Delmar Wayne Mattison on October 20, 2023, at 83 years of age.
Delmar was born in Preeceville, SK on May 31, 1940. In 1961, he enlisted in The Royal Canadian Air Force, and was honourably discharged after a near fatal vehicle accident. Delmar returned to the family farm in the Sturgis area and worked odd jobs while working on the family farm. Delmar was a free spirit and often shared stories about hitch-hiking across Canada. In the 1990’s, Delmar and his wife, Linda, moved to Canora, enjoying several years together before Linda’s health declined. Delmar was well known in Canora, where he and his partner, Madeline, often attended dances in the Parkland area. Delmar was known to be an outstanding dance partner and never missed an opportunity to gather for a meal and an evening of dancing.
Delmar was good natured and despite many life hardships, always looked for the silver lining.
Delmar was predeceased by his parents, Oscar and Betty Ann Mattison, his wife Linda Mattison (Barbour) and his partner Madeline Haning.
Delmar will be deeply missed by his friends, Gateway Community Church family, neighbours, many Canora acquaintances, along with the staff and residents at Capilano Court, Moose Jaw, where Delmar resided from May 2023 until his passing. We would like to express gratitude to the staff at Capilano Court for the exceptional palliative care they provided.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 27, 2023, at the Sturgis and District Cemetery, Sturgis, SK. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to Filling the Gap Food Bank, Canora, SK, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Delmar Mattison.
