On September 9, 1963, Deborah Ann Joseph was born to Henry Sylvester «Les» Joseph and Beatrice Lum in Cranbrook, B.C. She was called home to rest on February 23, 2023. Debbie was the second eldest of 12 children. As a child she lived with great grandma became sick. From there Debbie and her brother Sid were put in the St. Eugene Mission School. She was at this school for one year as the school closed. She is not only a residential school survivor but also a 60’s scoop survivor and wants it know she is not a number but a human being.
In 1973 Deb moved to spokane, Washington with her mother and brother Sid. This was when she met the love of her life, her husband Vernon Patrick. They attended the same school and would play tether ball together.
In 1979, Debbie became a mother to Ronald Joseph whom she didn’t know she was pregnant with. She went to the hospital as she was having pain. The doctors ran different medical tests and couldn’t determine the cause of pain. The doctor asked if there was a possibility she was pregnant? She quickly replied «NO». The doctors did a pregnancy test and found out Debbie was pregnant and in active labor. She gave birth to two daughters Katrina and Kimberly before she moved back to Cranbrook, B.C. In 1982. In 1985, Debbie gave birth to her fourth child Kasandra. Shortly after having Kasandra, Debbie and her family moved to Coalhurst, Alberta. On January 25, 1986, Debbie was married to Vern in Lethbridge, Alberta. In 1987, Debbie and her family moved Vancouver B.C shortly after moving there she gave birth to her youngest son Grant, following his birth they moved to Ronan, MT. In 1990 she gave birth to her daughter Veronica. Shortly after delivering Veronica , Deborah and her family moved to Moyie Springs, Idaho. This is where her and her family began to lay their roots. She gave birth to her youngest daughter of 7 Autumn Rae in 1993. Debbie worked on a potato farm close to her house. She spent her spring, summer, and fall months gathering berries with her husband and children.
Debbie moved back to Cranbrook, BC. She was asked by St. Mary’s (‘Aqam) to do house cleaning. She as a homemaker for two years. Debbie took some time off and enrolled into the Residential Care Aide Program at College of the Rockies. Debbie graduated with her RCA Certificate in 2001 and became confident in her profession.
Debbie always knew she wanted to return home and help her people. She has been employed with ‘Aqam for 20 plus years. Debbie was blessed with 27 grandchildren with the oldest being 22 years old and youngest one being 1 years old. Debbie had a love for her dogs. She had seven dogs.
Deborah is preceded in death by her father Les, sisters: Maureen Joseph, Margaret Joseph, Gwenda Joseph, Brother Sidney Morigeau, Granddaughters: Tamryn Gravelle and Dezirea Joseph and Uncles Richard Lum and Marven Andrew.
She is survived by her Mother Beatrice (Charles), Husband Vern, children: Ronald (Anita), Kelli (Justin), Katrina, Kimberly (Cas), Kasandra, Grant, Veronica, Autumn(Trevor) and Dakota (Jaylin).
Grandchildren – Tarryn (Stetson), Natasha, Dakota, Wailand, Treydon, Elijah, Kaeden, Thomas, Rose, Darius, Colin, Deshawn, Tristin, Deborah, Latayah, Nicholas, Aaron, Cynthia, Rozlyn, Raylee, Danielle, Soren, Grant, Natalia, and Caliah.
Siblings: Grace, Stan, Lorraine, Bonnie, Tyler, Leslie, and Morgana. Nephews: Doron, Marcus and Niece Natasha and numerous nieces, nephews, cousin, aunts, and uncles.
A Funeral Service for Deborah will take place on Monday February 27, 2023 at 11am at the Dan Joe Memorial Gymnasium. 7500 Mission Rd Cranbrook B.C
