Obituary of David Sheppard
With heavy hearts we announce that on Saturday, January 21st, 2023, our beloved step-Dad, (he truly was Dad), brother and uncle, David Sheppard, passed away at the age of 69 years after a short illness.
Samuel David Sheppard was the fourth and youngest son born to parents Jack and Cathren of Kevisville, Alberta, on September 12, 1953. Raised and educated in Alberta, David graduated from Spruce View High School, class of 1971. In his mid-twenties he moved to Elkford, British Columbia to work at Fording Coal Limited (which later became Teck). He met his late wife Marie in September 1987 when visiting friends in Delburne, Alberta and they married in May 1988. David undertook helping to raise Marie’s 6 children who were between the ages of 6 and 16 years old at the time. David and Marie were happily married and rarely spent time apart, residing at their home together in Elkford until Marie’s passing in 2017. David stayed in Elkford but always talked about going ‘home’ which was near Olds in Alberta. He enjoyed watching WWF wrestling; Smackdowns being his favourite events, various films, an occasional beer or a good quality scotch as well as visiting England and teaching his grandchildren about the finer things in life, such as waffles, crepes, and ice cream.
David is survived by his brother Bill and sister-in-law, Myrna of Calgary, nephew Craig (Amy) and niece Carrie (Mike), 3 step-daughters: Maye (Mike) Fizer, Amy Barratt, and Kathy Sheppard, 2 step-sons: Ron Klenot (Ashlee Foran) and Mike Haehnel, 13 precious grandchildren, as well as a great grand-daughter. Also left to mourn his passing are brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife Marie, parents Jack and Cathren, 2 brothers John Richard and Thomas Frank, step-daughter April Cowan, and 2 grandchildren: Alysa and Nathanael.
There will be a celebration of David’s life in the near future.
