Herbert ‘David’ Parenteau was born on April 11,1952 in Saskatoon. David passed away on October 13th at the age of 71 at the Cypress Hills Regional Hospital in Swift Current, with loved ones by his side.
David and his family moved from Saskatoon to Yorkton in 1967. David met Karen, the love of his life, in high school. They were married in Yorkton in 1973 and welcomed their first child, Rebecca, in 1979 followed by their son, Chad, in 1985. David and Karen just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on the September long-weekend of this year.
David began his career in insurance with Independent Agencies in Yorkton. He then took a position as marketing rep for SGI which moved him and his family to Swift Current in 1979. David became a partner at WW Smith Insurance in 1984 and worked there until he retired in 2014.
Growing up, David enjoyed all sports but his favourite was baseball. He continued to play ball into his early adult years with his team, the Swift Current Warriors. David also enjoyed golfing and attended numerous insurance golf tournaments over the years.
David and Karen loved to travel to different hot destinations every year. His most favourite trips were the ones when the entire family traveled together. Summers were full of family camping trips. David bought his first little 13 foot Boler the year he and Karen were married. Through the years their trailers got bigger, but still the same amount of fun. David and Karen enjoyed getting together with close friends for ‘Friday night drinks’. This started early on in their careers and continued into retirement.
David is survived by his loving wife, Karen, and their two children Rebecca (Lee) Buness and Chad (Jenna) Parenteau. David was an amazing grandpa to Brooklynn, Isla, and Atlas.
David was the second eldest of 6 children and is survived by his brothers Allan (Pat) Parenteau, Stephen (Debby) Parenteau and his sisters Janice Fenske, Andree (Brian) Parenteau-Kraft, and Catherine (Eric) Touche. He is also survived by his sister in law Linda (Neil) Ellis-Toddington, and many nieces and nephews.
David was predeceased by his parents Herb and Ruth Parenteau, his in-laws Glen and Dorothy Gillespie, sister-in-law Brenda Pelcher and brother-in-law Wayne Fenske.
David was a founding member of the Dr Noble Irwin Heath Care Foundation which was established in 1999.
The family would like to thank Stephanie and the staff at the Gull Lake Care Home, Dr Jason Gatzke and all the health care personnel that have cared for David.
The funeral service will be held at the Upper Auditorium of the IPlex on Wednesday, October 18th, at 2 PM
