It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of my husband and our father, David Smith. He passed away suddenly at his home in Bath Ontario on Monday, February 27th, 2023 at the age of 62. Anyone who had the honour of knowing David immediately recognized what a kind, social, funny, and loving person he was. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone, and support those he loved.
Beloved husband of Susan Graham-Smith, and cherished father of Marissa, Justin, and Amanda Smith. Loving son of Fran and Ronald Smith (both deceased), and treasured brother to Greg Smith. He will also be greatly missed by many other family members, friends, and pets that he cared deeply for.
David was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba with his parents, Fran and Ron Smith, and brother, Greg Smith. His childhood was spent playing outdoors, participating in many recreational sports, and spending time with his friends and family. He graduated with honours and distinction from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering. David moved to Ottawa in 1984 where a few years later he met Susan Graham and started a life together in their first home in Barrhaven. A few years later they got married in Ottawa and moved to their beautiful country home in the west end of Ottawa where they began to start a family. He worked for over 30 years in the high-tech industry in Ottawa as a respected project manager.
Over the years, David helped raise three beautiful children, maintain two properties (home and cottage), and work hard to support his family. He loved attending his children’s hockey, figure skating, and soccer practices and events. In more recent years he retired and moved to Bath, Ontario where he enjoyed going on daily dog walks, and being a part of the community.
A celebration of David’s life will be held at the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 2451 County Road. 15 (Maitland) on Saturday, March 11th, 2023 at 2 pm in the chapel. As expressions of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Mental Health Association would be very appreciated.
