David Michael Scurrey Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to all. David Michael Scurrey. He was the son of the late Jack and Doris (Kean)
Dave grew up on Hoyles Avenue in Rabbitown and attended St. Pats and Brother Rice. He had many jobs and started at Exon House as utility staff in 1980. Upon the closing of Exon House, he was transferred to Hoyles Escasoni and worked as a cook, maintenance and even driving the bus, driving residents around to appointments day trips and more. Dave served as president of the Nape Union, local 6208 while he worked there. He took a leave of absence and worked at different jobs including cook on the Newfoundland Mariner, Labourer/Foreman with Suncor in Alberta and labourer in Long Harbour with local 1208. He also worked as cook for many catering jobs. Upon his retirement he drove taxi and enjoyed chauffeuring clients around.
Dave was an avid sports fan having played golf, tennis, darts at the Old Comrades and he played softball for the CEI Club and Old Comrades. He played ball hockey with Exon House and there was no bigger Toronto Maple Leaf’s Fan then Dave. He attended a game in Montreal and had a rec room full of Toronto Maple Leaf’s memorabilia. Dave and Wendy loved traveling and visited Hawaii, Florida, Dominican, Canary Island, Barbados, Bahamas, Mexico, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, and many other places.
He loved his family and friends dearly and would do anything for anyone. He arranged many fundraisers for people going though a hard time. He always ensured that anyone in need never went without.
Dave will be missed by his loving wife of 36 years, Wendy (Keel); daughters: Jessica (Steve) and Samantha (Chad); brothers: John (Beth), and Maurice (Denise); sisters: Maureen, Donna, and Colleen (Midge); mother-in-law Ruby keel; brother in laws: Kevin and Paul (Donna) Keel; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends (too many to mention them all), and his little fur grandbaby Champ.
He is predeceased by his parents Jack and Doris, brother Frank (Barb); brother in laws: Garry Kavanagh, and Fred Murphy; father-in-law Norman Keel; aunts, uncles, and best friend Danny Hayes.
We would like to thank the Cancer Center, community nurses, family physicians and the Palliative Care Team.
Arrangements will be entrusted to Barrett’s Funeral Home 328 Hamilton Ave, where visitation will be held Sunday, November 10th from 2-4 and 7-9pm, as well as Monday November 11th from 2-4 and 7-9pm.
