Obituary
OLSEN, David John – 67, of Barrington, Nova Scotia, passed away on August 16th, 2024. He bravely fought cancer, determined to show his children and grandchildren the strength and resilience that defined him. Born on November 25th, 1956, in Edmonton, Alberta, he was the youngest beloved child of Bob and Stella.
David was a devoted and loving husband to his incredible partner, Kym, with whom he finally found the peace he had long searched for in retirement. As a loving father, he exemplified strength, dedication, and an unwavering work ethic for his children and grandchildren. Cherished by many, David was not only a caring family man, but also a treasured friend.
He spent most of his life working as an operator in various factories, but those who knew him best will remember him as a storyteller. Anyone who spent time with him would have heard tales of his adventures, like the time he ventured across North America to Key West at 18 on a motorcycle with just a few hundred bucks in his pocket; or his legendary appetite, like when he crammed 27 BC cherries into his mouth, making all of us kids cheer in triumph; or overcoming challenges, like when he finally defeated his older brother Mel in a basement boxing match, knocking out Mel’s two front teeth. These stories, told a hundred times over, filled with humor and lessons, never lost their charm, and those who heard them would give anything to hear him tell them just once more.
Dad, you are not alone and you are loved by your beautiful and devoted partner Kym, your children Steven, Scotty, Savannah, and Ky, and your amazing grandchildren June, Valerie, and Edwin. We will miss that big smile and cannot wait to see you again.
