DARREN GUICHERET
It is with profound sorrow that we announce Darren’s passing on July 25, 2024, at the age of 54. Left to cherish his memory are his parents Wayne & Carol, sister Kelly, and Aunt Marilyn Clark (Al Noakes). Darren was predeceased by his partner Donald King and grandparents Reta & Maurice Guicheret and Agnes & Rupert Belcher.
Darren grew up on Vimy Road in St. James, where he enjoyed adventures with neighborhood kids. He played baseball and hockey at the Heritage Victoria Community Club and hockey for the John Taylor Pipers and the St. James Canucks. Darren was blessed with two sets of loving grandparents who played a significant role in his upbringing. Some of Darren’s most special times were at the Bird River family cottage. He enjoyed boating, swimming, dirt-biking, and snowmobiling with family and lake buddies. He became a skilled water skier and wake boarder.
In his teens, Darren had loads of fun hanging with high school friends, taking a few memorable road trips to the mountains to ski and snowboard.
After graduation, Darren began a long career with Sunrex. He started with renovation work and graduated into higher roles, learning about real estate and transitioning that knowledge into his own real estate investments, eventually obtaining his real estate license. He bought a character home in Corydon Village and renovated it with skill and imagination. He took great pride in his home and enjoyed the vibrant neighborhood.
Darren had a passion for finding a ‘diamond in the rough’. He would discover unique items to refinish or repurpose, many of which he gifted to his family. One of his early vintage finds was a ‘76 VW Westfalia that took him exploring on camping trips and folk festivals.
Darren could be a very empathetic soul. He loved music, art, photography, had a great fondness for pets and wildlife and was quick to help a friend in need. He was a free spirit and independent, qualities our family respected in him.
Darren travelled extensively, cycling around Europe, touring in China, trekking Machu Pichu, and visiting Panama and Phoenix with work family. He fell in love with Phoenix and purchased a second home Litchfield Park. Here, he and Don created a personal oasis and thoroughly enjoyed the laid-back desert life.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone who shared in Darren’s life, those who provided help and support during his times of need. Special thanks go to John, Helmut, and the Sunrex family for their friendship and support over the years, to Don for his love and companionship, to Jan for being a caring friend and neighbour, and to those who befriended Darren in his later years.
Darren, we love you and will miss you forever. Your many talented creations will always bring happy memories and we’ll look back and celebrate you and your accomplishments.
A private family service will be held. Those who so wish may donate to Diabetes Canada, the Canadian Mental Health Association or a charity of their choice.
Thank you to Wojcik’s for their compassion and assistance.
