Darlene Dorothy (Trudell) Leroux Henry, 84, of Brockville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at Wellington House Long Term Care Home. Darlene was surrounded with the love of her children, grandchildren and the amazing caring Wellington House family (Staff and Residents).
Darlene was born on April 13th, 1940 in Cornwall, Ontario to John and Edna Trudell. She grew up in the city of Cornwall, where she created cherished memories with her six siblings, Bernie, Roy, Laura, Joyce, Rose, Jackie and cherished childhood friend Pauline. At the age of 10 years Darlene fell ill with rheumatic fever and spent five years battling the illness and the harsh affects the illness took on her in her early teen years. She spoke fondly of memories she had of her siblings, parents and Uncle Lindsay who during this five year battle would care for her, entertain her and educate her from her bedside in their family living room. Darlene built an incredible strength of resilience at this very young age that she carried throughout her life as she faced the trials of a life lived with determination and a generous love and empathy for others.
Darlene touched many lives with her empathetic ability to listen to anyone in their times of need. She opened her loving family home to others and embraced many with a generous loving heart. She is remembered by many for helping them along some of the loneliest most trying times in their life path to help them find their way under her protective caring motherly wings.
On July 25, 1959 she married her one and only young love Gerald Leroux. They shared 43 years of marriage building a loving home filled with much love, laughter, and sharing of great food. They also successfully ran their own dry-cleaning business in Prescott, Ontario for several years. Together they raised their 5 children and modelled for them the values of kindness, honesty, generosity and a responsible hard-working ethic. Darlene was a devoted wife, mother and Nanny; and her grandchildren were her greatest joy. She also filled her motherly heart with eighteen great grandchildren.
After the passing of her first love, Gerry, Darlene found a new strength living independently among some new cherished friends on Cuthbertson Avenue in Brockville. During this incredibly happy independent time Darlene enjoyed many days playing cards at the local legion and in small gatherings in girlfriend’s homes, there were countless walks around the neighbourhood and drive-way visits in warm summer evenings. The move to Cuthbertson Avenue also had Darlene meet her later life companion and love, Bill Henry. Their incredible friendship brought them together in marriage in October 2007. Darlene and Bill spent eleven years together introducing each other to new friends, experiencing travel, and enjoying the daily companionship of sharing their everyday life.
Darlene was a woman of faith and endless generosity. She was known for her kind heart and caring helpful hands. Darlene will be remembered for her selfless love of her family, her unwavering support for anyone in need and her incredible resilience in the face of life’s obstacles. Her legacy of love and strength will continue to inspire her entire family and all who knew her.
She is survived by her children Marc (Angela), Steven (Sandy), Polly (Bill), Tracy (Chris), and Jamie; her grandchildren, Brandon (Chelsea), Kyle (Jenna), Meghan (Matt), Scott (Ashley), Spencer (Carlee), Michael (Tarah), Eric (Abby), Dustin (Char), Kailee (Travis), Messy Jessy (Toby), Adam, Maryssa (Zac), Maranda (Jake) and Mara; by her eighteen great grandchildren Ben, Malcolm, Madi, Will, Liam, Rylan, Halle, Avery, Seth, Payton, Justin, Matthew, Rielly, Ryan, Ella, Owen, Everett, and Aspen; and by her one sister, Jackie (Gilbert). She is preceded in death by her first husband, Gerald her second husband Bill, her parents and five older siblings.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024 at the Irvine Funeral Home, 4 James Street, Brockville from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm followed by a Funeral Mass at St. John Bosco Parish, 175 Windsor Dr., Brockville at 1 pm. Interment will take place at St. Mark’s Cemetery Prescott followed by a reception at the Irvine Funeral Home Reception Centre, Brockville.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated to Wellington House Long Term Care Home in Prescott or to the Alzheimer Society of Lanark Leeds Grenville in Darlene’s honor.
