Obituary
Passed peacefully away on Sunday, October 1, 2023, Daphne Nightingale Antle, retired businesswoman of Botwood, aged 96 years, after a long, happy and fulfilling life. Daphne was born in Botwood and lived her entire life there. Never married, her life centered around the operation of the family business, A. N. Antle Limited, which was established by her father Arthur Nightingale Antle in 1901. The business operated a supermarket and ship’s chandlery in Botwood, servicing the paper and ore carriers that plied their trade from Botwood to Europe. She was active in the church, and in the Trinity United Church Women, where she was awarded Life Membership in 2002, and also in the community, particularly the Girl Guides of Canada, where she served as Exploits Valley Commissioner.
Daphne was predeceased by her brother Tom, sister Netta Baker and niece Rosemary Cantwell. Leaving to mourn her nieces Kathryn (Kay) McNamara and Helen (Mitz) Murray of Halifax, niece Anne (Angus) Newman of St. John’s and nephew John (Wendy) Baker of St. John’s, as well as grandnieces Jennifer (Newman) Kearsey and Elizabeth (Baker) Ehly and grandnephews Chris McNamara, Rob McNamara, Tim Baker, Paul Baker and David Newman.
