It is with broken hearts that we the family, announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Daniel Robert “Danny” McKinnon, age 63, on December 12, 2023 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born on November 8, 1960, Danny was the son of the late Frederick Robert and Shirley (Banfield) McKinnon. Danny is survived by his loving wife Diane (MacIntyre) McKinnon; his children Cindy (Chris), Sabrina (Devon), Gabe (Lenna), Melissa (Dave) and 10 grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sister Heather (Donald) Stephenson, brother Morris MacKinnon, his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles and friends. Danny also leaves behind his beloved fur babies.
Danny spent 30 years working as an electrician for Marine Atlantic until his retirement. He loved spending time with his family and fur babies. He treasured his grandchildren. There was nothing poppy could not fix with his “special tape”, cocoa milk or a popsicle. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humour and his knack for telling it as it is. He was a fighter with a heart of gold and will be deeply missed.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ghenea and Dr. Brake for their care and support. They would also like to thank the ICU Unit and all the staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Thank you to Danny’s friends and family who cared for him.
Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held from 12:00–2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2023 in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel with Patrick O’Neill officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the NS Heart and Lung Association or a charity of choice. Online condolences may be sent to the family by leaving a message on the tribute wall of the obituary at www.wjdooley.com.
