Daniel Charles (Danny) MacKay, 60 passed away February 11, 2023 at Dartmouth General Hospital. Over the last three years, Danny’s health steadily declined due to Alzheimer’s Disease. He was born in Antigonish on April 16, 1962 to the late Alex Francis and Jessie (MacDonald) MacKay Kingsville, Cape Breton.
He is survived by brother John Eric (Heather) Fort McMurray, sister and caregivers Mary Jane (Michael MacLellan) Dartmouth and sister Eileen (Karl Grabka) Halifax, nephew James MacKay, niece Anna Grabka and many “favourite cousins”. Predeceased by his sister, Mary Alexandra in infancy.
After graduating from SAERC, Danny attended The Regional Occupational Centre Port Hawkesbury. Danny was a great support to his parents and after their passing, he moved to Dartmouth to live with his sister Mary Jane and Michael in 2012. In his youth, Danny was an avid swimmer and bowling enthusiast, having participated in The Special Olympics; winning numerous medals. He was able to continue this passion when he moved to Dartmouth.
Danny was a true Gael proud of his MacKay and MacDonald heritage; he loved Cape Breton fiddle music and dance especially accompanying fiddlers on the spoons. He was a gentle soul and always had a complement for everyone he met, a friend to all and will never be forgotten.
Arrangements are under the direction of Green’s Funeral Home Port Hawkesbury. Visitation will take place Thursday, February 16, 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday, February 17 at 11 am at St. Mary of the Angels Church, Glendale with Father Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Donations may be made to St. Mary’s of the Angel’s Building Fund.
