Lucille MacNaughton passed away peacefully on Friday Sept 13th at Parkland Place in Melfort.
Dorothy Lucille was the firstborn to parents William and Sarah Heard at Cabri Hospital August 17, 1925.
The family attended a rural school near the farm at Abbey, Saskatchewan, known locally as Roe School. Lucille finished her education in Swift Current and intended to take nurse training when her mother died in a tragic accident on the farm. She returned to the farm to help raise her younger brothers. During this time she spent one year as a teaching assistant in the Roe school.
Lucille married a young preacher – Wes MacNaughton on August 20, 1948 in Prince Albert SK. They pastored rural churches north of Prince Albert, Mayview, Alingly, Deer Ridge and Spruce Home before moving to Weekes in December of 1953. They would lead this church until 1965. The family moved to the Melfort area and into town a few years later.
Lucille found work in housekeeping, restaurants and as a store clerk. She loved to read and had a pretty amazing library of books.
After Wes passed away, Lucille made the move to Diefenbaker Towers enjoying a full active life there for almost 30 years. She was involved in the Tenant Association and enjoyed the social activities like potlucks, birthday gatherings, card nights, bingo and the camaraderie these activities bring. Lucille diligently sorted and delivered the mail to the tenants for many years well into her 90s.
Lucille was a member the Order of the Royal Purple of Canada since 1978 gaining Lifetime member status in 2004. She maintained her membership until the group disbanded in 2012. She loved her community of Melfort and volunteered her time enjoying community events as often as she could.
Lucille was a faithful follower of Christ and made Park Avenue Bible Church her home church after moving to Diefenbaker Towers. She became involved in many ways from bible study to helping in the kitchen and baking many cookies for various events. She truly enjoyed the fellowship of her church family.
She loved her Family and treasured the times we would gather. She was purposeful in her prayers for each one and often picked up the phone to catch up or mailed a handwritten letter or card to keep in touch.
Lucille is survived by her 5 children: Dan (Sharon), Marion (Peter) Unternahrer, Ida Buryniuk, Seth (Tracey) and Esther (Craig) Chan; 11Grandchildren: Sheldon (Karen), Benjy (Jesica), Chad (Silvia) Evans, Nick(Pamela) Unternahrer, Monique (Matthias) Taeschler, Tom Buryniuk, Nancy (Ron) Phillips, Sarah (Rocky) Haidey, Josh (Erika), Jenni (Andrew) Weisberg & Angela (Rhett) Turton. 29 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
