Cynthia Rose Ruttgaizer Obituary
Passed away on July 21, 2024 after a lengthy illness, Cynthia Rose Ruttgaizer, at the Central NL Regional Health Center, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL. She was 79 years of age.
In life many of us are fortunate to have loved ones who have a remarkable ability to feel at ease in their company and warmly welcomed into their hearts, Cynthia was one such person.
Cynthia was #4 of 12 Ruttgaizer siblings from Churchill Road, Botwood, born to Dorothy Ruttgaizer, nee Howell and Jack Ruttgaizer. The Ruttgaizer family moved to Botwood, young children in tow, from Millertown Junction.
Growing up with the saltwater in her bones from the Bay, Cynthia spent her days playing on the beach or in Baker’s garden next to their home. She attended school in the United Church School System. As a young adult, Cynthia moved to Gagnon, Quebec as a caregiver to the young children of her elder sibling.
After many years there, she moved to Toronto, Ontario and began her new working life, eventually landing at McLean Hunter Publishing. It was there that she spent the bulk of her working life and developed many friendships. In particular, Cynthia had a strong bond with friends Easter Coyle and Ursula Cieslik.
When she retired like many true Newfoundlanders, she returned home to Botwood where she had family and friends. Before falling ill, she was an active member of a group of friends at Mugford Estates, where she lived.
Cynthia was an avid reader and loved mystery and suspense filled novels. Just two days before her passing, she went out shopping for a new selection of books.
She was an excellent cook and craftsperson, gifting most of what she made to friends and family and her church. She loved knitting and sewing, often acting as seamstress to her friends and family.
Cynthia also cherished animals dearly and spent many years as a devoted cat owner.
She also loved the time she was a member of Trinity United Church, the church of her youth. She loved the return to her Trinity United family, and deeply cherished the special bond it gave her with her sister-in-law, Jill Ruttgaizer.
Cynthia was a loving sister to her siblings and a caring and thoughtful aunt to her many nieces and nephews.
Her passing was sudden but not unexpected. In recent years her illness slowed her down. Despite this, her spirit remained strong and she fought her illness to remain independent.
She was predeceased by her parents Dorothy and Jack; sister Helen Goudie; brother Frank Ruttgaizer; brother-in-law Tom Fiander.
She leaves to mourn her sisters Leah Fiander, June Elliott (Ryburn), Kathleen Ruttgaizer, Beverly Ruttgaizer, Angela McDonald (George); brothers Bernard Ruttgaizer (Catherine), David Ruttgaizer (Shirley), Wayne Ruttgaizer (Linda), Roger Ruttgaizer (Theresa), Paul Ruttgaizer (Jill).
Cynthia loved people and people loved her. She will be missed.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place.
