COOK, Patricia Norma
June 4, 1943 — August 1, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mom, Patricia Cook, who died peacefully at Hospice House in Kelowna on August 1st, 2024.
Pat was born in Calgary, Alberta, on June 4th, 1943, to Leslie and Barbara Thompson. She is survived by her loving children Kevin (Lana), Sandra (Lyle), Les (Lesley); grandchildren Dalton (Alysha), Vanessa, Nicki, and Tanner; great-grandchildren Kiara and Aussy; siblings Frances (Roy, decd.), Ann (David), Les (Katie); and nieces and nephews Gary (Toni), Lori, Amanda, Barb (Dennis), and Mitchell (Jill).
Pat grew up in Vancouver, BC, where she graduated from John Oliver School in 1961. She then worked for the Forest Service for 2 years, and part-time for Vancouver City Police. She moved to Naramata, BC in 1966, where she raised her family as a single mom. She enjoyed being a part of the volunteer Fire Department as a firefighter, and singing in the Naramata choir. Patricia left Naramata in 1983, as her company (Council of Forest Industry, formerly Interior Lumber Manufacturers Association) moved from Penticton to Kelowna, BC. She spent over 30 years working for the forest industry before she retired.
Pat loved her family and raised her kids to be kind, loving, and generous – just like her. Her family was her priority; she would go out of her way to do anything for them. She put everyone before herself.
Pat was passionate about Nascar racing, and was able to experience a racing event live in Las Vegas. She also deeply appreciated travelling, highlighted in particular by her trips to Scotland (with her sister Ann) and Japan (with her granddaughter Nicki). At home, she enjoyed watching her retro westerns, like ‘Gun Smoke.’
Special thanks to her son-in-law Lyle for taking such good care of her over the past couple of years, carrying her through her health battles. A special thank-you as well to her friend Brenda, for spending hours at her bedside near the end. Of course, we also include Ed (decd.), forever in her heart. Pat and her family are also thankful to the lovely professionals at KGH’s 6-West wing and Central Okanagan Hospice House.
At the request of Pat, there will be no service held. A Celebration of Life will take place on a later date (to be announced).
‘She looks in your eyes
with warmth & love
She touches your day
with only a smile
She’s there when you need her
you know that she cares
The beauty inside
matches what’s out
She is the world to me
and without a doubt
I’m proud to say
she’s my mom.’
– Sandra
