Connie Louise (Beeson) MacAulay
December 20, 1961- February 27, 2023
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Connie (Beeson) MacAulay, at home in Aberdeen, surrounded by her loving family, after a brief but courageous battle with Cancer. She was a wife, mother, sister, aunt, niece, friend, Nurse, and role model to many.
Connie was born in Baddeck to Dan Hughie and Sadie Beeson, and grew up in Blues Mills, alongside her three sisters. She married the love of her life, Curtis MacAulay on September 20, 1986 and they became parents to Ryan in 1991 and Shelby in 1994. They spent time living by the water in Aberdeen where lots of memories were made, before building their dream home on the hill in 1997. The boys were her pride and joy and she always had a proud word or memory to share about them. She insisted that ‘boys were the best.’
She worked proudly and compassionately as an LPN; spending years working at Northwood Manor in Halifax, Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home, and Victoria County Memorial Hospital. She spent the last 17 years working at Alderwood Rest Home in Baddeck where she was respected and loved by both Residents and Staff alike. She gave herself the gift of retirement (and a new pet bunny!) this past December, on her birthday.
She was presented with several health challenges over the past year. However, she faced Cancer head on with strength and courage that most wouldn’t have been able to. No matter what was thrown her way, she persevered and remained optimistic, even in the hardest of times. She finished her last treatment before Christmas and was happy to be able to spend this time at home with family and friends. When she received the news that the cancer was back she didn’t give up. She was ready to fight with the same resiliency she had the first time; and she was more worried about her family than herself. She was brave and she was selfless.
Anyone who knew Connie, knew that she almost always had a ball of yarn close; working on one of her many knitting or crochet projects; from bags to socks to slippers to hats, including a bag of hats that she donated to the hospital for newborn babies. She had a green thumb, and anything that she planted in her garden grew beautifully. She loved a good feed of lobster, and there wasn’t anything that she couldn’t cook or bake. She was always trying new recipes; even when she was sick she was in the kitchen wanting to feed others. Connie valued family and loved being surrounded by those who she could make laugh with her tell-it-like-it-is personality. She always put others first, and her nurturing and caring disposition were traits that made her someone that people wanted to be around.
Connie was predeceased by her parents Dan Hughie and Sadie Beeson; in-laws Willie and Tootsie MacAulay; Aunts Anna and Jessie Gillis; and uncles Peter Beeson and Malcom Ross.
Connie is survived by her one true love and best friend, Curtis, sons Ryan, Halifax, and Shelby (Laura), Aberdeen; sisters Donna Constantine, Greenwood; Carol Ann (Titus) Campbell, Strathlorne; and Lynn Beeson, Blues Mills; in-laws Dale (Eileen) MacAulay, Whycocomagh; Bruce (Melanie), Sydney; and Heather, Halifax; nephews Todd (Rachel) Constantine and Kyle Constantine; nieces Tiffany Campbell, Breann Matheson, Jane MacAulay, Chrystal Rhyno, Karen and Kelly MacAulay; grandnephews Landon Constantine, Lachlan Matheson, and Kian Rhyno; and grandniece Lilah Matheson. Connie is also survived by her brother-in-law Bill Constantine; aunts Anna Matheson, Little Narrows; Jenny MacLean, Alderwood; Marion MacRae, Middle River; Bernice Beeson, Fort MacLeod, Alberta; uncle Normal Beeson, Inverary Manor and many cousins. Connie leaves many close friends to mourn, including special friend Darlene Grant who supported and cared for Connie and her family throughout her battle, until the very end; as well as Connie’s special dog who could always be found at her feet, Mya; and newest member of the family, Tanner the bunny.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Tribo, Dr. Ritter, Paulette Devin, Continuing Care, and the staff at The Cancer Center at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their care over the last several months.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 4th from 3pm until 8pm at Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Family Graveside Service to take place at a later date. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com
