Obituary
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Coleen Susan (Gavel) Grant which occurred on Sunday, January 1st 2023, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Coleen was born April 9th, 1953 to Maxine and Gerald Gavel. The first girl of three to bless the Gavel household. Besides her parents, Coleen is survived by her loving partner, Brian Fulton, her two sisters, Katherine Howland (Edward) and Judith Gavel, and her niece Jana Winslow (Luke). Coleen also leaves behind two very special people who filled her life with joy and happy memories, Pauline Walker and Ronald Grant. She is also survived by Aunts, Uncles and Cousins that were dear to her heart
The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care Coleen received from the Extra Mural Nurses and Caregivers. We would like to acknowledge Julie in particular as Coleen had a special bond with her. Julie went above and beyond and for that the family is sincerely grateful.
Coleen was a tireless worker for her co-workers on the CUPE local executive while working as an LPN at first the DVA (West Saint John), then the Regional Hospital and finally St Joseph’s CAM Unit. She also was one of the organizers of several DVA Reunions for past Employees. She enjoyed her time in the kitchen and browsing through her treasured cookbooks.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Monday, January 9th from 12 to 2 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service in the chapel beginning at 2 p.m. Interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes any memorials be in support of Bobby’s Hospice, Saint John.
