Claude Langille
1947-2024
Claude Charles Langille, 77, of 34 Mechanic St., Trenton, NS
was called home by the Lord on October 29, 2024. Born in Pictou, NS on
September 3, 1947, he was the fourth child of and second son of
deceased Edward and Minnie (Frosst) Langille.
After receiving his early education in Trenton where he lived
the majority of his life, Dad had quite a diverse work portfolio. He
earned his pay as a labourer, welder, salesman and executive to name a
few. He was also a proud graduate of Success Business College in
Truro, NS.
The latter was quite fitting as Dad’s life could be
summed up quite accurately as a success. The zenith of his industry
was realized when he joined Coca Cola in 1971. He rose quickly from
truck hand to Sales Manager of Pictou, Antigonish, Colchester and
Guysborough Counties, retiring in 1994. He then was the owner/operator
of Langille Vending.
However, Dad just could not stay away from his niche and
reengaged with Coke in 1998 for a brief period. Afterwards, he
continued to make a name for himself as both handyman, often
accompanied by eldest grandson, Kirklin, who found Pap’s
views on life quite fascinating, or driving school bus finding ways to
keep students amused and respectful of one another.
Claude was also an all-round sportsman, claiming numerous
awards and accolades in boxing, hockey, fast pitch baseball and, of
course curling! There is indeed no doubt that the many friends he made
at Abercrombie and, especially, Westville Curling Clubs will remember
him fondly. He was quite fond of sport fishing also, with his crew
consisting mainly of Henry Horton, son-in-law Roy Murray, son Ted and,
occasionally, Dan MacArthur.
Dad’s heyday continued when in 1966 he met Wanda
MacDougall of Stellarton and asked her to dance. They were married at
St. Augustine’s Church and Mom became always referred to as
«my beautiful wife» which caused her to blush every
time. Their union brought forth two children: Ted (Lara), Edmonton, AB
and Gillian (Roy Murray), Greenwood, NS. Besides his children, his
legacy is also maintained by grandsons: Kirklin (Lauren) and Spencer;
brothers, Vic (Lee), New Glasgow and Sonny (Lynn), Lyons Brook; he was
predeceased by sisters, Mabel (Fred Blair) and Peggy (Bill
Sample).
In retirement, Dad would walk the neighbourhood accompanied
by Charlie his much-loved Golden Doodle.
Dad’s greatest joy was road trips to support his
grandsons in their sports of baseball and hockey. He could be found
behind the net or the backstop beaming with pride and words of
encouragement. Numerous people over the years would hear him brag:
«There’s a lot of Langille in that one!»
Win or lose, Kirklin and Spencer were his pride and joy.
«Fire the heat Spencer» was one of the last remarks
from his Pap before Dad became quiet due to his
illness.
A special thank you to Scott Cameron who visited Dad every
Friday he could after his dementia diagnosis. Dad treasured the Blue
Jays/Chicago Black Hawks quilt made by Scott and Lorna.
Dad requested no ceremonies if and when he passed. The family
believes he will be ok with a Celebration of Life to be held at the
Trenton Rink Annex on Sunday, November 3rd from 1:30-3:30 pm. Being a
storyteller himself, please come and share your best Claude moments
with us as we raise a Coke for Dad. Arrangements are under the
direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home.
