Christopher Cipu Obituary
Christopher Andrew Cipu
Mar. 22, 1970 – Sept. 12, 2024
With heavy hearts, the community of West Elgin is grieving the loss of a true local legend whose larger-than-life personality brightened the lives of thousands over his lifetime. On September 12, 2024, Christopher Andrew Cipu passed away peacefully in his 55th year at Bobier Villa in Dutton while holding hands with his two beloved brothers, Jeff and David, and his mother, Mary Margaret Littlejohn Cipu, by his bedside. He is deeply missed by his sister-in-laws Linda (Jeff) and Stacy (David).
Christopher was the ultimate family man who took pride in his diverse Romanian, Scottish, and Dutch heritage. He was a proud uncle and the biggest cheerleader of his nieces and nephews Lauren, Brett, Riley, Evan, Emma and Hailey Cipu. The younger generation in our family, many of whom are now young adults, will forever cherish his uncanny ability to provide unfiltered life and dating advice.
He will be deeply missed by many aunts and uncles: Vera Sudicky, Florence (Joe) Vergeer, Susan Littlejohn, Donald (Jan) Littlejohn, Jamie (Stacie) Littlejohn, Niven Littlejohn, Janet (Brian) Adkin, David (Kim) Littlejohn, Tom (Cindy) Littlejohn, Andrea Littlejohn, Rob (Delia) Littlejohn. Cherished by his many cousins and great cousins of the Cipu and Littlejohn families.
He was predeceased by his father George Cipu in 2020, grandmother Virginia Cipu in 2018, grandfather Andy Cipu in 2007, grandma Audrey Littlejohn 2015, grandfather Alistair Littlejohn 2005, and his uncle Alistair Littlejohn 2004.
Chris was born with Down Syndrome and from a young age had an incredible ability to put smiles on those around him. Love, hugs, and laughs were his best medicine.
Chris had a passion for the game of hockey and all sports where he spent countless hours every week in West Lorne and surrounding arenas. Chris was known as the universal coach, trainer and mascot for his brothers, cousins, nieces, nephews, and any other team that he could slide behind the bench to support them for the win.
When behind the hockey bench Coach Chris also never hesitated to express his competitive side, and expanded vocabulary to referees.
Chris was a die-hard Red Wings fan and spent most of his evenings watching his favourite team play. Chris’ true passions were WWE wrestling, swimming, travelling and cheering on any sports event while shaking his famous red and white pom poms.
Chris and his family also enjoyed boating, skiing, fishing, snorkeling, and the famous annual Littlejohn hunt. In his younger years he would travel often with his family to Florida to visit and swim with both of his grandparents who were snowbirds. His love for swimming also qualified him a spot on the local Special Olympic swim team roster.
Chris attended West Elgin Secondary School and after graduating he had multiple jobs. His first job was working at the Quad County Support Workshop located in Wardsville. Chris’ most important job was working in Tobacco on the Cipu farm for the Vergeer family (Hollanada farms) in Rodney where his roots originated . He proudly earned and wore the title as President. He loved passing out his business cards to prove it. Chris was also a key employee at the local IGA/Foodland in West Lorne where he received Employee of the Month on many occasions. After 20 years at the store, he retired and did more travelling with his Aunt Flo and Uncle Joe. Chris spent 10 years being a snowbird and basking in the sun in Puerto Morelos, Mexico every January to March.
We wish to sincerely thank Bobier Villa and the entire staff, including Dr. Vaughan, for the compassionate care for Chris during his final 3 years of life suffering from severe Alzheimer’s. The Cipu family is forever grateful for your professionalism and dedication to his care.
In lieu of flowers the family would like to have any monetary donations forwarded to the Cipu Family Technology Memorial Award which is handed out yearly to the most valuable technology student at WESS or to the Down Syndrome Society by following this link: Down Syndrome Association of Ontario | Supporting & Advocating for Inclusion in Ontario dsao.ca
A private family interment will take place in the Rodney Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Elgin International Club (11558 Kerr Rd) West Lorne, on Saturday, September 21, 2024. This Celebration of Life will celebrate both Chris’ life and his father George, who passed away during the Covid 19 lockdown. The Celebration Service will start at 2:00pm with service and eulogies until 3:00pm. An open reception will take place from 3:00-7:00pm. There will be a donation bar with the proceeds from the bar to go to The Cipu Family Memorial Tech Fund operated by the TVDSB. Those wishing to donate may do so at the following link: tvdsb.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/create/fund?funit_id=2162. or donate at the bar.
